Position Overview

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Sr. Civil Engineer to join our S. WI/N. IL Civil/Environmental Team. This position will be responsible for overseeing water and wastewater infrastructure projects from inception to completion, maintaining strong client relationships, providing technical leadership for the company, fostering technical growth of staff, and securing funding assistance for projects. You will lead project management efforts while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management, technical leadership, client engagement, communication, and funding acquisition skills within the water and wastewater sector.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Management:
  • Take ownership of the complete project lifecycle, from proposal development to final project delivery.
  • Develop and manage project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and assign tasks to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Conduct project performance reviews, including cost control, quality control, and client satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Client Relations and Business Development:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients, fostering long-term relationships through consistent communication and project updates.
  • Understand client needs and expectations, translating them into clear project objectives.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations, providing technical insights and project progress updates.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities for new projects and preparing proposals.
  • Author proposals and technical approaches for new project proposals.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to expand the company's water and wastewater service offerings.
  • Maintain active membership and participation in professional, technical, and/or civic organizations. Serves on committees and advances the firm's reputation by authoring technical papers and/or presenting at conferences.

Funding Assistance and Grant Management:
  • Identify funding opportunities, including grants, loans, and other financial assistance programs from federal, state, and local sources.
  • Develop funding strategies and prepare grant applications to support water and wastewater projects.
  • Maintain relationships with funding agencies and stay informed of emerging opportunities.
  • Assist clients with navigating funding mechanisms and optimizing financial support.
  • Provide grant compliance and reporting requirement assistance.

Technical Expertise and Design Oversight:
  • Lead the technical design of complex water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems.
  • Oversee the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, permit applications, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Review and approve project deliverables, ensuring accuracy and technical soundness.
  • Perform advanced design, modeling, and water/wastewater system analysis.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff, promoting knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and standards to ensure projects meet current requirements.

Quality Assurance and Risk Mitigation:
  • Implement and enforce quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes.
  • Identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct technical reviews of designs and reports, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.


Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and IL PE license are required. M.S. degree is desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience with the planning, design and construction of pumping and water/wastewater treatment infrastructure. Experience with collection and distribution/storage systems is a plus.
  • Experience performing project management tasks including development of scope, schedule and budget.
  • Experience working with clients in the public sector (municipal and sanitary district) market.
  • Experience assisting clients with program funding options (user fees, grants, SRF loans process, etc.) and permitting.
  • Familiar with the capabilities of various CAD and modeling software including AutoCAD Civil 3D. Additional knowledge of modeling software including Biowin, Visio, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-GeoRAS, XP-SWMM, a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members from multiple offices.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting salary range: $114,483 - $160,576 + annual performance bonus.
