Under the direction of the Associate Director of Engineering - Engineering & Commissioning (AD-E&C), the Campus Engineer, and in high level coordination with the University Architect, the Electrical Professional Engineer 5 (PE5) is responsible for providing specialized engineering services to support the development of capital projects on the UC Davis campus. Primary job functions include design and submittal reviews, engineering and design services, infrastructure planning, and commissioning and construction administration support. The PE5 performs work with a high level of independence and serves as the technical expert in field of expertise assisting project management teams with projects of critical importance to the organization. The PE5 advises senior management and consults with industry professionals in designing, planning and implementing complex, technical systems and/or customized construction features. The PE5 is responsible for the evaluation and coordination of complex technical systems, programs, or other customized construction activities within the area of expertise including areas of emerging technology. The PE5 promotes areas of emerging technology consistent with area of expertise through programs and other educational forums, and creates an appreciation for and sensitivity to programs, projects and systems that employ, expand and enhance building projects utilizing new technologies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • License to practice electrical engineering in the State of California.
  • Bachelor's degree and / or equivalent combination of experience and training in electrical engineering.
  • 12 years of electrical engineering experience as applied to building and site infrastructure systems including planning, design, and construction of complex, new and renovation projects in an institutional environment.
  • Extensive engineering experience in evaluating building and site electrical infrastructure systems, including medium voltage distribution systems and sub-stations as well as planning, design, and construction of such systems in new and renovation projects in an institutional environment.
  • Extensive experience analyzing architectural and engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and installations with special emphasis on engineered systems such as electrical, fire alarm, telecommunications services, lighting, power and signal systems including skills to identify methods of improvement and develop approaches and solutions.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear, concise, and professional reports and correspondence using MS Word and Excel.
  • Expert knowledge in the development and production of building and utility feasibility studies and assessments as well as complete design documents for projects.
  • Expert knowledge of architectural, engineering, and construction practices; ability to research, interpret and apply California Building Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations, Uniform Fire Codes, university policies and other applicable codes and regulations.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with a wide range of university campus project types such as research laboratories, classrooms, lecture halls, academic and administrative offices, student housing, food service facilities, recreational facilities, campus planning and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and experience with the Campus Design Guidelines, policies, procedures and practices specific to capital project administration for the University of California and the Davis campus.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using AutoCAD program in developing design drawings and details.
