Work Arrangement:

Hybrid:

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI) three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

About The Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual contributor with demonstrated experience as a Design Release Engineer for vehicle antenna systems, including sharkfin antennas, amplifiers, and antenna elements. This role is responsible for leading the design, development, validation, and release of antenna hardware for GM vehicle programs from concept through launch and field support.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical breadth across antenna products and vehicle integration, paired with creative problem solving, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This engineer will work cross-functionally with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and program stakeholders to deliver robust, compliant, and manufacturable antenna solutions that meet performance, timing, cost, and quality targets.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead overall communication, coordination, and consultation with engineering teams, suppliers, and internal customers
  • Establish designs that meet program performance, timing, BOM, BOP, BOD, and serviceability requirements
  • Balance requirements across systems and support tradeoff decisions to achieve the best overall product outcome
  • Lead component design and release activities for antenna systems including sharkfin antennas, amplifiers, and related hardware
  • Analyze designs using Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Plan and implement complex test and development programs
  • Demonstrate compliance to requirements through analysis, development, validation, and release processes
  • Represent the business unit in supplier and customer technical discussions
  • Release final designs for manufacturing or purchase, as appropriate
  • Conduct incident analysis and ensure problem resolution through the Jira PRTS system
  • Implement engineering changes as required, including ECP and Emerge ECM processes
  • Participate in cost studies, product suggestions, and value analysis activities
  • Define hardware and budget requirements for experimental build programs
  • Actively participate in the product development team and lead product development team activities as appropriate
  • Support supplier quality assurance activities and issue resolution
  • Lead warranty issue investigation and resolution
  • Participate in workgroups with interfacing hardware and software teams, as required
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as required


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience as a Design Release Engineer, or in product development or subsystem engineering for complex engineered products
  • Experience supporting work through concept, design, validation, launch, and field support
  • Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and issue resolution skills in a fast-paced engineering environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with GM engineering processes, systems, and tools, including bills of material, release systems, vehicle development processes, and change management workflows

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills):
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • DFSS Green Belt certification
  • Experience with automotive antenna systems, including sharkfin antennas, amplifiers, antenna elements, and related RF hardware
  • Knowledge of antenna design, development, integration, and validation processes
  • Experience with DFMEA, warranty resolution, and supplier quality processes
  • Experience using GM systems such as Jira PRTS, ECR, ECM, and related release tools
