Full Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Network Engineer to be responsible for supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) medical mission by ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of complex LAN/WLAN/WAN infrastructures across all DHA networked facilities in the CONUS region.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Support
• Serve as the CONUS and global point of contact for all network issues, configuration management, communications interconnection, addressing, and multi-protocol routing and network management.
• Identify and resolve complex LAN/WLAN/WAN network problems using advanced network management tools (e.g., Orion SolarWinds, ARMIS, Ansible).
• Provide high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of network communication equipment for all DHA networked facilities.
• Advise and consult with government staff, agencies, and contractor representatives on network design, implementation, deployment, and management to ensure optimal performance and mission support.
• Lead and interface with Network Specialists and internal/external organizations to resolve network issues.
Security & Compliance
• Maintain and enhance LAN/WLAN/WAN security, including configuring firewalls, VPN devices, and intrusion detection systems (IDS).
• Ensure compliance with DoD, DHA, and CONUS Command objectives, policies, and security standards.
• Support vulnerability management, patching, and remediation activities as required by DHA policies.
Documentation & Standards
• Provide written recommendations for network changes or enhancements, document changes via tickets, and update written standards in coordination with the NetMOD Network Standards Team.
• Establish and implement network procedures and standards to ensure compliance with all relevant policies.
• Communicate status of network support requests to key customers.
Continuous Improvement & Project Participation
• Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies and vendor products.
• Participate in long-range infrastructure planning and technical architecture projects.
• Develop and write policies and procedures for best practice solutions and standardization.
• Lead or participate in other projects and support activities as needed.
Required Qualifications
Certification:
• Compliance with DoD Directive 8570.01 "Information Assurance Training, Certification, and Workforce Management."
• Information Assurance Manager (IAM) Level III or equivalent certification per DoD 8570.01-M.
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are required.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in computer sciences, Engineering, technical discipline, or related field and five years of directly related experience; OR
• Completion of a certified Technical or Vocational School and 10 years of directly related experience with increasing complexity.
Experience:
• Mastery of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, XDM, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, RSTP, VRRP, BIND, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, PPP, HDLC, V.35, RS-449, and IEEE 802 standards).
• Direct experience with synchronous/asynchronous communications, Ethernet, Fast/Gigabit Ethernet, FDDI, ATM, and other DoD/DHA communications media.
• Proficiency with network diagnostic tools (OTDR, cable testers, network sniffers) and EIA/TIA cable standards.
• Experience in routed, switched, and shared LAN environments using Microsoft OS, Windows Active Directory, UNIX, OpenVMS, routers, switches, and terminal servers.
• Experience with DoD Health Care Information Systems is required.
• Expertise in Windows networks, Cisco Systems, and Orion SolarWinds.
• Experience with Zero Trust Architectures and Methodologies is desired.
Security Clearance:
• SECRET security level designation required.
