Position Overview

The Senior Director, Technical Services is accountable for leading the technical interface between Novelis and its customers (Beverage Packaging, Auto and Specialties) across North America, ensuring that Novelis products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations throughout product development, industrialization, launch, and serial production.

The role leads the North American Technical Services organization, which is responsible for customer manufacturing support, application engineering, product development, and technical problem resolution. Working closely with Commercial, Manufacturing, Quality, R&T, and Operations, the Senior Director ensures new and existing aluminum products are optimized for customer forming, stamping, joining, painting, and assembly processes while driving continuous improvements in product performance and customer satisfaction.

The position serves as the primary technical advisor to OEMs and Tier suppliers, translating customer requirements into manufacturing capabilities and product innovations that strengthen Novelis’ competitive position and support profitable growth.

 

Responsibilities

 

Customer Technical Partnership

  • Lead the technical relationship with beverage packaging, specialties, automotive OEMs, and Tier 1 suppliers throughout product development, qualification, launch, and ongoing production.
  • Serve as executive escalation point for significant customer technical issues and product performance concerns.
  • Build trusted technical partnerships that position Novelis as the preferred aluminum supplier.

Product Development & Commercialization

  • Lead development of customer-specific aluminum products that satisfy mechanical properties, formability, surface quality, joining characteristics, and other customer specifications.
  • Coordinate product industrialization from concept through commercial production.
  • Partner with R&T, Manufacturing and Commercial teams to accelerate new product introductions.

Customer Manufacturing Support

  • Lead the field Technical Services engineers supporting customers during rolling, stamping, blanking, forming, welding, heat treatment, painting, and assembly operations.
  • Ensure rapid technical response to manufacturing challenges while minimizing customer downtime and production disruptions.
  • Establish standard processes for customer support across North America.

Manufacturing & Quality Integration

  • Translate customer feedback into manufacturing improvements.
  • Partner with plant quality, process engineering, and operations teams to improve capability, consistency, and product performance.
  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

Technical Strategy

  • Develop the North American Technical Services strategy aligned with Commercial growth objectives.
  • Identify future customer technology needs and emerging platforms.
  • Support development of advanced alloys and manufacturing technologies.

Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing organization of Technical Service Engineers, Product Development Engineers and technical specialists.
  • Foster collaboration across Manufacturing, R&T, Commercial, Quality and Supply Chain.
  • Develop technical capability and succession for critical engineering positions.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 15+ years of progressive technical leadership within aluminum, metals, automotive materials or advanced manufacturing.
  • Deep understanding of rolled aluminum products and automotive sheet applications.
  • Demonstrated success leading product development and commercialization programs.
  • Experience managing customer technical support organizations
  • Experience working across Manufacturing, Quality, R&D and Commercial organizations.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed technical teams.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • PhD is desirable for advanced product development environments.
  • Significant experience supporting automotive OEM customers.
