This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

The Senior Director, EHS is an enterprise leader who believes all leaders have a habitual aim to promote safety. In this role, you will lead the enterprise-wide Environmental Health and Safety function, reporting directly to the Vice President of Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. You will set the vision, build the organization, and drive EHS performance across all Blue Origin sites, positioning the function to scale with the company's growth trajectory.

This role is part of the Safety, Quality, & Mission Assurance team, which focuses on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin design, manufacture, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes serve the Blue Origin Mission and Vision.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Business Integration
  • Develop and own a multi-year EHS strategic plan that anticipates regulatory evolution, organizational growth, and technology advancement, aligning EHS investment priorities with enterprise business objectives and long-range planning processes.
  • Advise the VP of SQMA and executive leadership team on EHS strategic risk posture, performance, and investment priorities.
  • Apply risk-based prioritization methodology for managing competing EHS program demands across diverse geographies and operational types (manufacturing, launch, test, refurbishment).

Leadership & Organization Building
  • Lead change management across thousands of employees, building and sustaining a safety culture at the senior leadership level and throughout the organization.
  • Own organizational design for the EHS function: build the right team structure, capability model, and career framework to attract and retain top EHS talent.
  • Lead workforce planning and talent strategy for EHS professionals across a growing, multi-site organization.
  • Lead EHS teams of dedicated aerospace professionals supporting launch vehicles, spacecraft, launch pads, and manufacturing facilities with hazardous liquids, cryogenic systems, ordnance/explosives, and mechanical systems.

Operations & Execution
  • Own the enterprise EHS budget, including capital planning, operating expenses, and resource allocation across all sites.
  • Build scalable EHS standards and procedures deployable to new sites, programs, and business lines as they come online.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain the EHS Management System and related standards, policies, and procedures to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification, meeting regulatory and industry best practice standards.
  • Ensure safety and health compliance with local, state, and federal laws including OSHA, PSM, NFPA, and ANSI requirements.
  • Ensure environmental compliance with local, state, and federal laws including NEPA, RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and NPDES.
  • Remain current with all applicable regulations and company policies; advise leadership on EHS-related programmatic change recommendations.

Performance & Technology
  • Develop and manage key EHS performance indicators; provide performance assessments to senior leadership; recommend and implement performance improvement plans.
  • Own enterprise-wide EHS technology and systems strategy, including evaluation and deployment of digital tools for incident trending, root cause/corrective actions, and continual improvement.

Additional Information:
  • Travel expected up to 25% between multiple sites across the US.
  • Relocation provided.


Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in occupational safety and/or environmental management EHS roles in an industrial manufacturing/production environment.
  • Minimum B.S. degree (engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety preferred).
  • In-depth understanding and practical experience with EHS Management System design and implementation, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and OSHA/EPA regulations.
  • Experience managing multi-site EHS programs with budget and headcount responsibility.


Desired:
  • 15+ years total work experience.
  • Experience in operational aerospace launch vehicle manufacturing, processing, launch, and refurbishment.
  • Experience in launch pad operations.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
  • Experience leading organizational design and scaling EHS functions through periods of rapid growth.
  • Track record of EHS digital transformation or technology modernization initiatives.
