Full Job Description
Position Summary:
Fabick Cat is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Architect to oversee and support multiple business-critical applications and database platforms across the enterprise. The Senior Data Architect serves as the technical owner across a portfolio of third-party and in-house systems, managing the full project lifecycle from requirements through implementation.

This position plays a critical role in Fabick Cat's data modernization effort, helping define, build, test, and implement a future-state, cloud-based data architecture. This future-state architecture is intended to lend itself heavily to enterprise AI adoption and to support an upcoming migration to Microsoft Dynamics 365. The Senior Data Architect works closely with IT leadership, business partners, and other IT teams to ensure database and data platform solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with Fabick Cat's strategic objectives and Caterpillar's digital vision.

Responsibilities:
Database & Application Platform Ownership
* Serve as technical owner of multiple third-party and in-house database platforms and applications, overseeing the full project lifecycle including requirements, development, testing, and implementation.
* Design, build, and administer APIs and system integrations that connect databases, applications, and third-party platforms, ensuring secure, reliable, and well-documented data exchange.
* Oversee data warehouse operations; troubleshoot and resolve issues across supported systems.
* Conduct product research and evaluate new database and software products against business requirements.
* Assist with project planning and provide technical database expertise to team members and vendors.
* Collaborate with vendors on the direction of solution development and enhancements for supported platforms.

Data Modernization & Cloud Architecture
* Actively incorporate AI tools into daily work -- beyond basic prompting -- to accelerate tasks such as query and script development, troubleshooting, documentation, code review, and data analysis; model and promote effective AI-assisted ways of working for the broader team.
* Play a key role in Fabick Cat's data modernization effort; define, build, test, and implement a future-state cloud-based data architecture.
* Design and support data architecture patterns that enable enterprise AI adoption, including data pipelines, integration points, and governance structures that support AI and agentic workloads.
* Support the technical planning and execution of the organization's migration to Microsoft Dynamics 365, ensuring database and data platform readiness.
* Evaluate, recommend, and help implement cloud database tools and platforms, preferably on Microsoft Azure, in alignment with enterprise standards.
* Maintain knowledge of emerging architectural methods and technologies, including cloud and AI-enabling data patterns, and apply them to the environment.

Data Governance, Security & Standards
* Define, develop, communicate, and implement data standards, processes, and procedures for the team and department.
* Ensure database and data platform solutions adhere to data security, compliance, and governance frameworks, including appropriate data cataloging and access controls.

Collaboration & Mentorship
* Understand and translate business requirements into database and data architecture designs that align with overall business and technology vision.
* Establish, maintain, and foster relationships within and outside the team, department, and vendors.
* Provide instruction and guidance to less senior team members on new tasks and assignments; ensure deadlines are met.
* Listen to and evaluate customer and business needs to determine, provide, and identify high-quality solutions that align with expectations.
* Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
* Previous experience with Power Apps, Power BI, PowerShell, SSRS, and Snowflake.
* Familiarity with agentic AI architectures, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) patterns, or AI-enabled data pipelines.
* Extensive knowledge of Office 365 products, including SharePoint Online and Excel.
* Familiarity with Caterpillar technologies, enterprise standards, and the Cat® Digital ecosystem.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Excellent analytical skills with the ability to use data for effective presentation of information.
* Proven leadership, results orientation, and self-motivation.
* Superb written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage audiences across a broad range of technical expertise and business acumen.
* Proficient knowledge of project management concepts, from planning and inception through implementation and support.
* Must demonstrate flexibility and agility related to critical thinking and decision-making with complex business implications.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
* Primary work is performed in an office or service facility environment with frequent communication by phone and computer.
* Tasks involve sitting for extended periods, using hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone, and reaching with arms.
* Occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling may be required, especially when verifying equipment status in the yard or assisting with parts logistics.
* Employees are regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with technicians and customers; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
* Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving parts or equipment files) and safely handle heavier loads up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.
* Work may occasionally involve exposure to a warehouse or outdoor environment with moderate noise and varying weather conditions; appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used as required.
