JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Cytogenetic Analyst is responsible for analyzing cytogenetic samples from various biological specimen types to aid in diagnosing and treating genetic diseases. This role involves performing routine and complex cytogenetic procedures, ensuring lab quality standards, and assisting in lab management activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine and non-routine cytogenetic procedures, including slide preparation and analysis.
  • Review chromosome and FISH samples, write reports, and ensure quality standards.
  • Support lab manager in staffing, scheduling, and monitoring turnaround time (TAT).
  • Troubleshoot quality issues in the lab and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist in more complex cytogenetic procedures and ensure adherence to established policies.
  • Demonstrate capabilities in at least one of the following areas (Validation and Tech Transfer)
  • Participate in proficiency testing (PT) as assigned; document results and assist with investigations/corrective actions for unsatisfactory performance.
  • Ensure performance and documentation of quality control (QC) for assays/instruments/reagents;
  • Ensure maintenance of complete and accurate records.
  • Ensure prompt notification to the supervisor/technical leadership of QC failures, PT issues, specimen problems, instrument malfunctions, and other nonconformances; document notifications and actions taken.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or higher in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science field from an accredited institution required.


Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant lab data analyst experience.
  • 3+ years relevant clinical lab operations/wetlab experience.
  • High-level experience leading projects and transferring complex assays.
  • Certification/registration as a Technologist in Cytogenetics by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists CG(ASCP)
