Construction Cost Estimator

Mangan Engineering & Automation Specialist company is looking for a full-time Construction Cost Estimator to join our team in Long Beach, providing estimating services for industrial projects (Oil & Gas, Factories, Power Plants, Substations, etc.). This position will play the vital role in accurately estimating the cost of construction projects using the Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator. This role will work across internal and external discipline groups, as well as play a role in client presentations.

Education:

A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred.

Certifications:

Certification in cost estimation or related fields (e.g., AACE International certification) is a plus.

General Description: As a Total Installed Cost (TIC) Estimator, you will play the vital role in accurately estimating the cost of construction projects using the Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator.

You will use Material Take Off (MTO) worksheets and supporting documents/drawings (developed by the technical project team) and perform job walks to develop accurate construction cost estimates and write a supporting Basis of Estimate (BoE) document. You will be responsible for initiating and leading reviews of the TIC Estimate workbook and BoE with the Mangan Project Manager and/or project team, to ensure the estimate accurately reflects the scope and execution strategy. You will be responsible to lead, in collaboration with the Mangan Project Manager, estimate review meetings with our client estimators and client project managers.

You will be responsible for maintaining and updating a log of TIC Estimate requests that come from projects teams with expected start and finish dates and status of estimate development progress.

You will be responsible for maintaining and updating our internal estimate component library, guidelines and templates. Contribute to professional services estimates templates, developed by Mangan PM's in regard to the hours our estimator need to develop TIC estimates of different size.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction, cost estimation, MS Excel, exceptional attention to detail, and expertise in utilizing Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator or Aspen Capital Cost Estimator software for project estimation.

Key Attributes:
  1. Utilize Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator to develop detailed estimates for engineering and construction projects.
  2. Collaborate with project teams to understand project scope, specifications, and requirements to ensure accurate cost estimations.
  3. Analyze project documents, drawings, and technical specifications to identify all cost elements and potential risks.
  4. Work closely with procurement specialists to obtain accurate pricing information from vendors and subcontractors.
  5. Review quality of MTOs and supporting documents, prior to starting to develop an estimate. Advise, reject, comment back to the project teams when these key estimate inputs are no up to the standard needed to develop an estimate on time and on budget.
  6. Participate in project meetings and discussions to provide expertise on cost estimation matters and contribute to decision-making processes.
  7. Provide support during the bid process by comparing our TIC cost estimates and to construction contractor cost estimates and evaluating where and why they differ.


Qualifications:
  1. Proven experience as a Construction Estimator, preferably in the engineering or construction of heavy industry.
  2. Proficiency in utilizing Aspen Cost Estimating tools for cost estimation is essential.
  3. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  6. Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies.
  7. Knowledge of procurement processes and vendor management.
