Full Job Description
Build the vision for Hydraulic Mining Shovel (HMS) performance and controls technology. Be the engineer providing influence at a product level. As a Senior Controls Engineer for HMS, you will provide algorithms and perform data analytics on HMS machines. You will evaluate controls and machine performance in simulation and provide solutions for any design issues discovered. You will also perform simulations to evaluate inquiries from the field. This position provides opportunity to gain an intimate understanding of HMS operation and performance and have the ability to impact them both. This position resides within the Hydraulic Mining Shovel Engineering team in Tucson, AZ. What you will do: • Technology - Develop, organize, and maintain the algorithms for HMS technology features. This includes features like Operator Assist (protects machine cylinders), Payload (determine the mass of the material in the bucket), and future semi-autonomous features. • Electrohydraulic - Understand hydraulic and electrical schematics. Work with the different system teams to identify ideal hardware for the required controls inputs. • Simulation - Complete controls and/or performance simulations for current production and NPI HMS and provide recommendations driven by data • Quantifying - Identify the conditions that are needed to simulate real life hydraulic mining shovel operations. Update the simulation complexity depending on the needs of the study. • Data Analytics - Provide insight on operator behavior by utilizing live data channels from active machines • Resource coordination - Delegate tasks and utilize team resources, ensuring project fidelity and timely completion. Meet regularly with resources. • Innovation - Keep up-to-date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques What skills you will have: Technical Excellence: Strong technical leadership skills with extensive experience in the performance and application of heavy equipment. Extensive understanding of complex engineering concepts and applications, electro-hydraulic system design and/or test, and control theory. Previous product development experience. Engineering Tools: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized engineering programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test design concepts using tools like MATLAB, Simulink or Python. Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of performance problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Track record of developing innovative technical solutions and the ability to gain buy-in for implementation from all levels of the organization. Effective Communications: Strong communication, leadership, project management, and business management skills. Direct work with internal process partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers requires the incumbent to demonstrate skill in negotiation, building consensus, and achieving compromise. Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision. Education: Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum. Top Candidates will also have: Experience with Dynasty, Rocks3D, C-Link. Additional Information: This position requires the candidate to work full-time in the Tucson, AZ office. Domestic relocation is available. Occasional travel (10%) may be required to support activities at manufacturing and/or customer sites. Sponsorship is not available. Summary Pay Range: $112,710.00 - $169,060.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
