Location: This position is field-based and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center throughout Michigan's Lower Peninsula. While employees are aligned to a designated Service Center for administrative purposes, the majority of work will be performed at active construction sites located throughout the state. Assignments are typically centered at a single project site during execution and may transition to different locations as projects are completed. Candidates must be within a commutable distance of a Consumers Energy Service Center or be willing to relocate (relocation assistance is available for those who qualify).

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for the leadership, management, administration, and execution of the physical construction phase of projects. The incumbent may have one or more assigned projects at multiple locations and will typically manage complex, large-scope utility construction projects. Utilizing appropriate metrics, the Senior Construction Manager monitors and controls safety, scope, cost, quality, and schedule performance throughout the project lifecycle.

This position will support the Renewable Construction Management Team, which is responsible for the execution of renewable energy projects across Michigan, including wind, solar, river hydroelectric, and pumped storage facilities. Candidates must possess demonstrated experience supporting the development or construction of renewable energy projects in one or more of these areas.

The successful candidate will also have familiarity with various project delivery and contracting methodologies, including Build Transfer Agreements (BTA), Self-Build, Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC), Lump Sum, and Time & Materials contracts.

Assigned projects will vary in scope and complexity, ranging from routine and repetitive large-scale construction projects to complex, large-scale portfolio and retrofit projects. While this role is primarily focused on renewable generation projects, it may also support initiatives across Consumers Energy's broader utility portfolio, including Fossil Generation, Gas Compression, Gas Storage, Gas Distribution and Transmission, Electric Transmission & Distribution, and Facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist design engineering concerning the application and limitations of construction methodologies and equipment. Perform constructability reviews of 30%, 60%, and 90% drawings.
• Attend project and/or plant meetings, serving as the Single Point of Contact for EPM with Owners and internal stakeholders (Operations, Engineering, etc.) at the location of project execution.
• Drive contractor relationships at the project site; interface between contractors and proactively facilitate conflict resolution. Understand the working agreements and contracts under which they are contracted.
• Lead and guide the field effort with expertise and experienced counsel in multiple construction disciplines; ensure contractors utilize and schedule equipment, personnel, and tools efficiently to support the construction effort. Lead, develop, and maintain good working relationships with local building trades.
• Provide leadership to ensure that contractors work safely according to site- and project-specific safety plans, understand changing conditions, comply with all quality requirements, build according to plans and specifications, and execute work in accordance with the approved project schedule. Document this in the Daily Field Report.
• Utilize complex metrics to monitor and control safety, scope, cost, quality, and schedule performance.
• Work with the Project Management Team to lead and develop requests for proposals, including assisting with scope, contract, and specification development; developing a construction execution plan, including site logistics planning; providing feedback on the appropriate number of skilled crafts through contracted organizations, as well as technical staff serving in support roles; developing special field guidelines for work considered atypical or infrequently performed; creating Level 1, 2, and 3 schedules; assisting in developing budgetary costs; executing the bid process; assisting in post-bid interviews; and awarding projects.
• Other duties as assigned or as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Ability to follow union contracts as they relate to managing projects.
• Excellent communication skills; able to work with all stakeholders and experienced in problem-solving.
• Proficient in project information management systems, including Bentley ProjectWise and Oracle Primavera Unifier, with the ability to manage construction documents, drawings, workflows, project records, and related project data throughout the project lifecycle.
• Knowledge of NDT/NDE practices and how they apply to Utility Construction.
• Knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA industry safety standards.
• Knowledge of OSHA 1926/MIOSHA Construction Safety Standards and their application to construction activities, including understanding their impact on project execution (e.g., preventing over/under situations).
• Understanding of applicable building codes, permits, and inspections.
• Understanding of contract documents and deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, including drawings, specifications, submittals, testing, warranties, guarantees, etc.
• Understanding of building trade jurisdiction, skilled trade classifications, and general knowledge of labor relations best practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering with four (4) or more years of experience working with Consumers Energy standards and specifications, or equivalent industry standards, including Safety Manuals, C&FP, Material Specifications, and the Field Inspectors Manual.
• (OR) Associate's degree with six (6) or more years of experience working with Consumers Energy standards and specifications, or equivalent industry standards, including Safety Manuals, C&FP, Material Specifications, and the Field Inspectors Manual.
• (OR) High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of experience working with Consumers Energy standards and specifications, or equivalent industry standards, including Safety Manuals, C&FP, Material Specifications, and the Field Inspectors Manual.
