Senior Buyer - Supply Chain

Department: Production Control
Reports To: Senior Industrial & Systems Engineer
Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000

Remtec is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Buyer - Supply Chain to join our Production Control team. This is a hands-on procurement role supporting a high-reliability PCB and electronics assembly manufacturing environment.

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement of materials, components, and outsourced services while developing strong supplier relationships, negotiating favorable terms, managing supply risk, and ensuring materials are available when needed to support production.

This position will translate MRP/ERP requirements into effective purchasing actions and will play a key role in supplier performance, inventory optimization, cost reduction, New Product Introduction (NPI), and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will work closely with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and external suppliers to maintain an uninterrupted flow of materials and support Remtec's manufacturing objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Management
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify potential suppliers based on quality, capability, capacity, delivery, cost, and overall business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong, long-term supplier relationships.
  • Lead RFQ activities, analyze supplier quotations, and select suppliers in accordance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, lead times, and other commercial requirements.
  • Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings, contract improvements, and supply chain optimization.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, capacity, and overall service.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews and address performance concerns.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by ensuring supplier requirements, specifications, and documentation are clearly defined and communicated.

Supply Planning & Purchasing
  • Review MRP/ERP requirements and convert demand and forecasts into timely purchase orders.
  • Ensure the correct materials, quantities, drawings, specifications, and delivery requirements are communicated to suppliers.
  • Maintain appropriate order quantities, safety stock, lead times, reorder points, and purchasing parameters.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and proactively identify potential shortages, capacity constraints, and delivery risks.
  • Work closely with Production Control and Manufacturing to support production schedules and short-term capacity requirements.
  • Identify and escalate chronic supplier issues and drive appropriate corrective actions.
  • Process purchase requisitions and purchase orders for materials, services, and miscellaneous goods.
  • Work with Finance to reconcile invoices and packing slips and resolve purchasing discrepancies to support timely payment.

Inventory Management
  • Monitor raw material, work-in-process (WIP), and finished-goods inventory levels.
  • Identify excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory and develop strategies to reduce inventory exposure.
  • Establish appropriate safety-stock levels based on demand variability, supplier lead times, and production requirements.
  • Balance inventory optimization with the need to maintain uninterrupted production.
  • Support cycle-count activities and initiatives designed to improve inventory accuracy.

Procurement Data, Systems & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate supplier information and purchasing parameters within the ERP system, including lead times, minimum order quantities (MOQ), order multiples, and other planning data.
  • Use ERP/MRP data to identify upcoming material constraints and supply risks.
  • Develop and maintain purchasing dashboards, supplier performance reports, and procurement KPIs.
  • Analyze procurement data and provide actionable recommendations to management.
  • Develop and document procurement processes and strategies consistent with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement of planning and purchasing parameters, processes, and systems.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead and mentor a small team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance team performance.
  • Help establish procurement priorities and ensure purchasing activities align with production and business requirements.
  • Ensure customer requirements are appropriately flowed down to suppliers and that required supplier documentation is obtained and maintained.
  • Collaborate with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and other departments to resolve supply issues and improve overall business performance.
  • Prepare and present procurement metrics, supplier performance information, and other KPIs to senior management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, supplier performance, cost management, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive procurement or purchasing experience, preferably within electronics, PCB, semiconductor, ceramic, thick-film, or related manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting manufacturing operations and production requirements.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute procurement strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven purchasing decisions.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP procurement systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to others.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where priorities may change.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Epicor ERP, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
  • Professional supply chain certification such as CPSM or CPIM.
  • Experience working with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality systems.
  • Experience with supplier development, supplier performance management, and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
