Full Job Description
Perkins&Will is looking to recruit a Sr Architectural Technologist in our Calgary studio who contributes to all phases of the design process with a high level of proficiency and expertise while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, project management, execution and sustainable design. This role would also advocate for and inspire creativity, critical thought and technical excellence both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will have 10-15+ years of experience.

  • Understands and responds to technical implications, design decisions and project financial goals.
  • Participates in and mentors team members' technical design resolution, project documentation development and the production of deliverable drawings and specifications. Provides oversight on assignments.
  • Directs project Quality Assurance efforts and responsible for adherence with Perkins&Will standards.
  • Oversees and manages Quality Control reviews at each phase for conformance with firm standards, contractual obligations and project design intent, with a focus on quality, accuracy, legibility, completeness and constructability.
  • Accountable for effective project coordination efforts among internal disciplines (architecture, interior design) and with external consultants.
  • Communicates with clients related to project technical matters.
  • Performs project regulatory reviews (building code, accessibility, zoning) and assists with submission to authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Exercises critical and creative judgment and design applications skills in preparing client presentation materials.
  • Oversees staff conducting construction contract administration responsibilities including submittal review and response, RFI review and response, field observation and reporting, and project closeout.
  • Keeps up to date on construction practices, products, codes, engineering systems and building technology.
  • Participates as a productive team member working in Revit.
  • Leads collaborative teams in technical design reviews and pin-ups.


Proficiencies

  • Demonstrates strong leadership and relationship-building skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills and decision making.
  • Able to lead one or more teams on medium to large-size projects through the development of design concepts as it relates to building technology and systems.
  • Experience working on projects in a variety of sectors - commercial, institutional, mixed-use.
  • Able to work under pressure to complete work and meet deadlines.
  • High proficiency in developing contract documents and knowledgeable in detailing with a comprehensive knowledge of building construction techniques, constructability, systems, assemblies and materials.
  • Knowledge of Alberta building, energy and zoning regulations.
  • Able to develop and work through preliminary technical design studies.
  • Collaborative, highly motivated, accountable, and diligent.
  • Proficient in technical hand sketching.
  • Experienced and proficient in architectural field observation.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

  • LEED GA within 6 months of hire
  • Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation
  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in architecture, architectural technology, or building science
  • Designation with The Association of Science & Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) preferred
