Senior Analyst, Workers' Compensation

Team Overview

The Senior Analyst, Workers' Compensation (WC), oversees the WC program, facilitates management of WC claims, and supports associates and various teams at stores, regional offices, and the Home Office. In addition, the Senior Analyst will have the opportunity to mentor and oversee the work of others on the team, and will report to the Senior Manager of Risk Management.

Role Responsibilities
  • Oversee WC program by:
    • Directing and monitoring the activities and performance of the third-party administrators (TPAs)
    • Serving as primary CarMax point of contact for TPAs
    • Auditing claims to ensure TPAs are delivering quality support to injured associates and CarMax.
    • Facilitating internal compliance with state and federal WC regulations and CarMax policies and procedures
    • Continuously improving WC processes and CarMax policy documents, procedures and other guidance
    • Leverage industry best practices to improve individual and strategic claim management.


  • Facilitate management of individual WC cases by
    • Providing TPAs with case information, including job descriptions, wage histories and personnel information
    • Consulting with TPA, in-house counsel, and outside counsel on litigated claims
    • Recommending claim strategies to the TPA
    • Reviewing and approving case settlements and resolutions
    • Participating in meetings and providing updated reports relevant to Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, Leave of Absence and ADA programs
    • Partnering and/or making recommendations to internal Legal, Human Resources and Asset Protection teams to resolve employment issues and/or investigations
    • Identifying and directing subrogation and lien recovery opportunities
    • Providing hands-on management of sensitive and/or exceptional claims


  • Support associates, store teams, regional teams and Home Office teams by
    • Responding quickly to questions and needs
    • Providing accurate information to associates on seeking medical care and filling prescriptions
    • Coordinating transitional duty program


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of WC claim management or similar experience
  • Proven experience partnering across teams in a dynamic environment to get results, often managing many priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated analysis and decision-making skills
  • Specific knowledge and experience with medical and WC terminology preferred


This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office (Richmond, VA) and associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

The annual salary for this position is:
$77,000.00 - $115,500.00
May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.


Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
