SummaryThe Senior Accountant will be responsible for the daily, monthly and annual accounting for complex areas of the balance sheet including but not limited to investments, loans, participation loans (both purchased and sold) financial derivatives and debt. Daily activities include preparing and posting journal entries, review of account activity, monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts, preparation of monthly actual to actual variance documentation for assigned general ledger accounts, researching and resolving issues impacting the general ledger, preparation of quarterly call report and annual audit report supporting schedules and other ad hoc requests as assigned.

- Keeps record of account entries by compiling and analyzing financial reporting activities
- Accounting for complex segments of the balance sheet including loans, investments and financial derivatives
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations to include investigation and resolution of reconciling items for assigned areas of responsibility
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting
- Document and maintain procedures for assigned job functions
- Evaluate existing processes and procedures to recommend and implement best practices in automation and efficiency of those processes
- Monitor existing processes to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
- Maintain the integration of sub-ledger interface matrices, lead the implementation of new interfaces as necessary
- Serve as mentor to junior level staff
- Lead the accounting team as needed in support of departmental management
- Assist management with ad hoc assignments, as necessary
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external parties in order to efficiently and effectively complete tasks and assignments
- Serve as primary liaison to external auditors and regulators for areas of accounting responsibility Responsible for the documentation of internal controls specific to these areas.
- Assist Financial Reporting and Finance Services team with requests and support, as needed
- Promote honest and open communication throughout the credit union
- Demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the credit union’s values, philosophies, and leadership characteristics
- Work with other credit union departments to ensure that processes and workflows are providing the best possible service to credit union members
- May occasionally be required to travel to other credit union facilities for visits or training purposes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5-10 years’ experience in accounting, specifically in financial services with emphasis on financial instruments
- Expert level understanding of accounting principles (GAAP, FFEIC, FASB)
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Access databases and AI applications

- Experience in highly regulated industry
- Experience with automation of processes, and a desire to create efficiencies for their own areas of responsibility as well as others within the department
