Job Description

BAE Systems Maritime Solutions San Diego is seeking a Waterfront Supervisor for its 17,500-ton floating steel dry-dock Pride of San Diego (POSD), 55,000-ton floating steel dry-dock Pride of California (POCA) and all Waterfront structures.
Candidates must be able to work unsupervised on a daily basis trouble shooting and repairing mechanical, piping and electrical systems, utility services on land and pier/under pier, temp services and telcom to all Navy vessels, share weekend watch responsibilities.

Required Skills and Education

Education:
  • Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 4 years work experience or equivalent experience

Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge in all facets of trades relating to dry dock operation or ship repair.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, quality and technology.
  • Ability to drive material handeling equipment
  • Must be able to work at heights greater than 50 feet
  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting required
  • Ability to operate small boats
  • Must be able to obtain DBIDS credentials
  • Places safety above production in performance of team activities
  • Actively participates in implementing and monitoring continuous improvement initiates to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs.
  • Effective leadership, communication and team-building skills.
  • Inspects every job by every mechanic/electrician upon completion to ensure trade quality standards and attention to detail have been met.
  • Participates in development of standard / best practice and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manages workforce performance and compliance to company rules; Implements corrective action, conflict management, and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Develops daily work assignments and expectations for production workforce.
  • Maintains a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Supervise all maintenance activities for shipyard cranes, heavy equipment, shop equipment, HVAC, plumbing, exhaust systems, buildings, grounds, security systems, forklifts, vehicles, and IT network.
  • Work may require assignment to offsite locations.
  • Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required.
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of job scope.
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Proven ability in people environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products.
  • Understands supports and commits to BAE mission, vision and values


Preferred Skills and Education

  • Experience developing and mentoring employees, inlcuding coaching and performance development
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
