Position Summary

The Sport and Performance Psychologist is an embedded position in the Health and Counseling Center (HCC) that is jointly funded by the Athletic department and the HCC. The Sport and Performance psychologist works with intercollegiate student-athletes and serves as a liaison to the athletic department. The Sport and Performance Psychologist is responsible for triaging requests for Mental Health and Performance based treatment for student athletes within an integrated health care clinic, along with serving student-athletes through regular office hours, educational programming, ADHD evaluations and consultation with staff within the Department of Athletics and across campus. This is a full-time, 40 hour a week, 12-month, benefited position and reports to the Director of Counseling Services.

Essential Functions

• Administrative Responsibilities:(Attending and leading meetings, completing chart notes, responding to telephone calls/messages, responding to snail mail and email, reviewing and co-signing supervisees' notes, committee work, completing administrative assignments such as chart reviews, committee assignments, etc.)
• Manage and provide specialized counseling and sport psychology services specifically for the DU Department of Athletics student-athlete population.
• Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage) and serving as back-up support for the after-hours on-call system.
• Administer and supervise a limited number of ADHD evaluations for student athletes.
• Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy services to non-athlete DU students as schedule allows.
• Consults and collaborates closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Pioneer Performance and Head Medical Team
• Physician to ensure holistic student care.
• Recruit and supervise a clinical sport psychology practicum student.
• Develop and deliver outreach programs, workshops and psycho educational group presentations to student athletes and teams.
• Consult with DU Athletics personnel, parents, faculty, etc., when appropriate and with consent in order to provide quality of care.
• Maintain a diverse option of providers to accommodate student-athlete and Athletic Department preferences both on campus and through outside referrals.
• Maintain clinical records within a HIPAA medical records system.
• Generate yearly reports related to volume of clinical and team services.
• Supervise and participate in the development of generalist trainees, including practicum students, interns and postdoc/postgraduate fellows.
• Demonstrate sensitivity and competency in working with the full range of diverse groups.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Language Skills:

• This position requires sophisticated written and verbal communication skills, and involves occasional outreach presentations; meetings with students, parents and administrators, and writing clinical case notes, reports and policies.

Mathematical Skills:

• A basic understanding of math and statistics is required. Expertise in working with Excel and project management experience is preferred.

Reasoning Ability:

• Able to understand and relate to complex theories behind several related concepts.
• Able to concentrate on fine details with constant interruption.
• Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others for a long period of time.

Other:

• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to function independently with a broad perspective, maturity, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Ability to function independently and to supervise and train several personnel.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed or license- eligible within three months in the State of Colorado as a psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D).
• Specialized training in Performance and Sport Psychology.
• Experience with supervision and crisis intervention.
• Experience working with college athletes, preferably in a high-profile intercollegiate athletics setting.
• Experience with ADHD evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications or licensed by professional organizations (e.g., APA, ACA, CCAASP).
• Experience working in competitive athletic environments.
• Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience with injury-related psychological services, (i.e. health or pain psych)
• Experience in university/college counseling center.
• Experience with outreach, prevention and groups.

Working Environment

• Standard office environment.
• Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
• Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

• Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Nights and weekends as needed.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $89,000-$93,000.

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
