Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a Spooling Supervisor to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). The Spooling Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing all spooling operations to ensure materials are processed safely, efficiently, an in accordance with quality standards. This role coordinates daily activities, supervises spooling personnel, enforces safety and procedural compliance, and works closely with production, quality, and logistics teams to meet schedule and client requirements. This supervisor also monitors equipment performance, addresses operational issues, and supports continuous improvement within the spooling area.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyperson Certificate in a related field (i.e., Pipefitting, welding)
  • 5+ years of spooling production experience, ideally in Oil & Gas fabrication of compression or process packages would be preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret all red-line markups and blueprints (Isometrics, P&ID's, G.A.'s)
  • Working knowledge of the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation, and Code as it pertains to our industry.
  • Strong knowledge of assembly/fabrication/production processes, techniques, and quality control methods.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Must have experience in Supervision of a spooling department

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT(Weighting 80%)Operations Oversight
  • Oversee the daily operations of the spooling department, ensuring adherence to technical drawings, specifications, welding procedures, etc.
  • Collaborate with Production Floor Supervisors, employees, and contractors to ensure efficient delivery of project schedules
  • Participate in problem-solving, planning, and scheduling
  • Manage and assign work to be completed
  • Attend production meetings, providing department updates as required
  • Prepare cross-over reports with the afternoon shift to ensure productivity
Resource Management
  • Plan and allocate resources, including labour, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficient production flow.
  • Communicate resource loading requirements to direct reports.
  • Liaise with shipping & receiving, ensuring parts and materials are received, tracked and ready in advance for installation
LEADERSHIP (Weighting 20%)Team Management
  • Directs, mentors and trains apprentices.
  • Oversee performance management of direct report employees
  • Engage with and build good positive working relationships with all stakeholders including but not limited too, Applications, Engineering, Design, Doc Control, QC, and Safety.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a safe work environment, complete job hazard assessments, lift assessments, and Safety walks, facilitate inspections and required maintenance, conduct weekly toolbox talks
  • Participate in Safety, QC, and all other company programs
