Pay Range: $98,508.8 - $114,628.8 per year

Job Overview:

The Speech Pathologist provides direct patient care services to individuals exhibiting communication and/or swallowing disorders within therapy suites, inpatient nursing areas, or outpatient settings. This role coordinates treatment alongside multidisciplinary healthcare professionals while actively contributing to departmental clinical goals and productivity demands. Qualified candidates may also assist in the training, supervision, and clinical direction of graduate students, volunteers, and Clinical Fellows.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • NJ State Speech-Language Pathology License (or eligible)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (or eligible; Clinical Fellows welcome to apply)
  • Active membership with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification
  • Completion of the national examination if beginning a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) affiliation
  • Evidence of continuing education necessary to meet licensing requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of the theoretical principles and clinical application employed in the diagnosis and management of various communication and swallowing disorders
  • Physical stamina for lifting and therapeutic handling of patients
  • Tact, initiative, and strong professional judgment in the performance of duties

Preferred:
  • Bilingual proficiency (ability to independently provide comprehensive services in the patient's preferred language, distinguish communication differences from disorders, and explain normal language acquisition processes)
  • Student clinical experience in pediatrics
  • Rehabilitation experience
  • Knowledge of typical development


Scheduling Requirements
  • Full-Time (40 hours/week)


Essential Functions:
  • Delivers effective therapeutic services that are relevant to the population served and remains knowledgeable of current clinical techniques.
  • Conducts Speech-Language evaluations on the population served to accurately and efficiently identify strengths and needs, communicating findings in verbal and written formats.
  • Completes Basic Competencies of the population currently serving as indicated on the Speech and Hearing Department competency criteria and hospital competencies.
  • Meets productivity demands and minimum annual expected volumes by seeking out opportunities within the entire department during cancellations, no-shows, and low-census periods.
  • Completes written evaluations, therapy documentation, and patient coordination records in a timely manner meeting ASHA specifics.
  • Effectively shares information regarding therapy, evaluation techniques, and hospital procedures with students, volunteers, CFYs, and peers.
  • Participates in departmental projects that are consistent with department and hospital goals and missions.
  • Communicates job-specific concerns and actively participates in developing solutions.
  • Provides in-service training to staff and the community as requested and completes training commensurate with state license laws.
  • Directs daily professional contact with patients, families, nursing staff, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
