Job Description:

The Role:

Our site in San Luis Obispo is seeking an EHS Specialist to join our team. In this fast-paced environment you will help create world-class safety culture through compliance by best-practice. The Safety Specialist is responsible for partnering with leaders and employees to build a safe work environment, ensuring everyone complies with health and safety laws, maintaining policies and coaching employees for policy understanding, and seeks to discover opportunities for improving conditions and executing various safety programs.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with site EHS to implement site environmental health, safety and security procedures and programs to ensure alignment with Corporate EHS Policies, goals and objectives.


  • Ensure the site is responsible and complies with applicable EHS governmental regulations, legal requirements of OSHA, EPA, DEA, and DHS;


  • Work with department personnel to understand safety best practices based upon activity-based risk assessments;


  • Monitor compliance safety procedures by inspecting and observing work performed by employees;


  • Develop standard compliance inspection checklists and conduct inspections to determine gaps and drive gap closure;


  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures;


  • Assist with improving job safety analyses (JSA), ergonomic assessments, lockout tagout procedure management, personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments;


  • Work with site EHS to ensure compliance reviews and corresponding document packages are completed in a timely manner;


  • Work with site EHS to implement and complete EHS projects in safety, environmental, sustainability and occupational health;


  • Any other duties as assigned.


What We Seek:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety, occupational health, engineering, environmental science, or other EHS-related technical discipline from an accredited college/university. Equivalent experience considered in place of degree.


  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in managing successful EHS programs.


  • Specific subject matter expertise in such areas as chemical safety, industrial hygiene, electrical safety, energy control and confined spaces.


  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.


Outstanding Candidates Will Have:

  • CIH and/or CSP certification.


  • ISO 45001 and/or 14001 experience.


  • Safe Start facilitator certification.
