About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Specialist, Communications to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations team. This is a remote, work-from-home position, with travel to site every month as required.

The Specialist, Communications plays a critical role in shaping the internal culture and community presence of the Mount Milligan Mine. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, this role is responsible for designing, executing, and managing clear, engaging, and strategic communications that connect our workforce across operations and leadership.

As a key strategic partner within the HR team, they ensure our workforce remains informed, aligned, and engaged with our operational goals, safety milestones, and cultural roadmap. Additionally, they will support local stakeholder, public affairs, and social media initiatives to maintain and strengthen our brand and social license to operate.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement:

  • Develop and implement an internal communications plan that aligns with the mine's operational milestones, safety culture, and organizational changes.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute daily/weekly operational updates, leadership messages, employee newsletters, and digital display content across the mine site.
  • Partner with the HR Manager and mine leadership team to draft organizational announcements, and materials supporting long-term leadership transitions and culture roadmaps.
  • Design and facilitate internal communication channels (e.g., town halls, focus groups, and engagement survey feedback loops) to capture employee sentiment and drive continuous improvement.
  • Co-lead event planning committees to plan and execute the communication strategy around employee appreciation events such as Family Day and holiday parties.
  • Support ad hoc communications and employee experience initiatives, such as enhancing onboarding materials, improving visual communications, and elevating the overall look and feel of internal content.


Community, Public Affairs & Digital Relations:

  • Support Regulatory and Public Affairs in their execution of community investment programs, local sponsorships, and public relations initiatives in neighboring communities.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability and Indigenous Relations teams to ensure external messaging is consistent, respectful, and transparent.
  • Support the corporate social media strategy while leading the development and execution of a local/regional social media presence (e.g., Facebook, Instagram), highlighting site milestones, community involvement, and employee stories to build a strong regional brand.


Crisis & Change Management Communications

  • Act as a critical communication resource during organizational changes, translating complex strategic shifts into clear, transparent, and empathetic employee messaging.
  • Maintain and update site crisis communication protocols in coordination with corporate communications; support the HR and leadership teams with rapid, accurate internal messaging if required.
About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Human Resources, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: 5 - 7 years of progressive communications experience, ideally within an industrial, heavy manufacturing, or natural resources setting (mining industry experience is highly desirable).
  • Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to translate high-level business acumen and leadership strategies into relatable, engaging employee communications.
  • Digital & Event Savvy: Experience supporting corporate social media strategies and coordinating workforce events (like family or appreciation days).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional active listening and relationship-building skills, with the emotional intelligence required to navigate complex employee relations, community dynamics, and organizational shifts.
  • Writing Excellence: Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp eye for detail and the ability to adapt tone for diverse audiences - from frontline operators to public stakeholders and executive leadership.
  • Adaptability: Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic mine site environment, managing multiple competing priorities under tight deadlines.
