The Application Lab Specialist will manage all aspects of the various Wixom Application Testing Laboratories, supporting application development and specification related testing services for Automotive, Electrical, Healthcare, & Consumer/Industrial segments for the Americas ETP business. The specialist will be responsible for a variety of testing services, including weathering, physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on ETP materials.
The Application Lab Specialist will manage all aspects of the various Wixom Application Testing Laboratories, supporting application development and specification related testing services for Automotive, Electrical, Healthcare, & Consumer/Industrial segments for the Americas ETP business. The specialist will be responsible for a variety of testing services, including weathering, physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on ETP materials.
Responsibilities include: - Operating specialized laboratory equipment to test parts according to internal methods and external standards (e.g. ASTM, ISO, OEM), providing accurate and timely testing results, conclusions and summaries to requesters.
- Working closely with commercial and T&I stakeholders to schedule and prioritize testing based on business strategy, targets and other priorities.
- Assessing and reporting failure modes, observations and conclusions using prior experience and knowledge and, if possible, relate them to known material behavior and characteristics.
- Developing new test methods and managing installation and startup of new lab equipment.
- Mentoring, training and overseeing work of other technicians or engineers supporting laboratory testing.
- Maintaining all equipment, including repairs, calibration, and purchasing lab supplies.
- Managing financial responsibilities such as budgets and expenses for the labs.
- Conducting regular housekeeping/5S to always keep labs presentable for tours.
- Ensuring compliance with company policies, safety and good laboratory practices. Supporting A2LA and other accreditations, as needed.
- Following, implementing, and updating all LOTO procedures, SOPs, corporate safety standards, and regulatory EHSS requirements.
What Matters to SABIC:- Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or engineering
- Minimum 10 years' experience with laboratory testing and management, preferably with plastic materials testing
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office tools, various laboratory software and electronic lab notebooks
- Knowledge of Automotive, Healthcare and/or Electronics testing
- Expertise in laboratory techniques, troubleshooting equipment, and implementation of new test methods
- Knowledge and use of statistical methods with excellent data
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks to meet various project deadlines
- Planning and negotiation skills
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated execution of tasks and report outs
