Are you ready to shape the future of military aviation with cutting-edge technology? Join our Special Operations Rotary Wing Platform Systems Team within the Integrated Avionics Solutions group at Collins Aerospace.

You will play a key role in the development, integration, and testing of the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) supporting U.S. military rotary-wing aircraft.

This position is ideal for a motivated engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working across multiple engineering disciplines, and seeing how individual requirements and design decisions affect the aircraft as an integrated system. You will work alongside experienced systems engineers, architects, test engineers, software and hardware teams while developing the technical experience necessary to take increasing ownership of complex platform-level engineering activities.

What You Will Do:
  • Perform platform systems engineering activities including requirements development and analysis, system design, integration, verification, and validation for military rotary-wing cockpit avionics.
  • Develop, review, and maintain system requirements and associated engineering documentation supporting CAAS development.
  • Support development of system-level technical solutions and evaluate impacts across software, hardware, aircraft interfaces, and other avionics subsystems.
  • Execute requirements-based, robustness, and ad-hoc testing in laboratory environments and support formal system verification activities.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot system-level issues involving Collins Aerospace equipment, software, lab assets, and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE).
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, safety, cybersecurity, test, and other engineering teams to resolve cross-functional technical issues.
  • Support preparation of test procedures, engineering analyses, verification evidence, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in technical and peer reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and subject matter experts.
  • Communicate technical status, findings, risks, and recommendations to engineering leadership and program stakeholders.
  • Use engineering tools including DOORS, JIRA, PREP, Microsoft Office, SVN, and other program-specific development and test tools.
  • Have opportunities to support aircraft and flight-test activities at customer facilities as experience and program needs allow.

What You Will Learn:
  • Develop a systems-level understanding of the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) and its integration across complex military rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Gain hands-on experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, from customer needs and requirements through design, integration, verification, and flight test.
  • Develop experience troubleshooting integrated avionics systems and interfaces including Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553B, and ARINC-429.
  • Work directly with experienced architects, systems engineers, test engineers, and avionics subject matter experts.
  • Develop increasing technical ownership and independence while building the skills necessary for future technical and leadership roles.
  • Gain exposure to direct customer interaction and the operational application of the systems you help develop.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class III Medical Certificate/Flight Physical to support applicable flight-test activities.
  • Ability to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, supporting laboratory integration, development, and test activities.
  • Ability to travel domestically, with possible international travel, estimated at less than 10% annually.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary to support formal test events and program milestones.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with military or civil aircraft, avionics, mission systems, command-and-control systems, or other complex integrated systems.
  • Operational or engineering experience involving sensor integration, data fusion, aircraft systems, or real-time mission systems.
  • Experience developing, analyzing, or verifying system requirements.
  • Experience performing system integration, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, or verification and validation.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC-429, or similar digital communication interfaces.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle processes including requirements decomposition, interface definition, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Experience with DOORS, JIRA, PREP, MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering tools.
  • Existing active DoD SECRET security clearance.
  • Collins Aerospace Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) experience.
  • Strong technical communication, documentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
