Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting daily inventories to ensure that all NYC Transit handguns are returned at the completion of the Collecting Agents' assignments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: record the entry and removal of Collecting Agents' firearms in the armory log when the Electronic Firearm Security Storage System is offline; conduct daily inventory of firearms stored in the armory and immediately investigate any inventory discrepancies; investigate alarms received of overdue firearms at the Collecting Agents' satellite locations on the RFID firearms inventory system; assist in bi-annual and annual inventories to ensure all NYC Transit handguns are accounted for; perform administrative duties associated with the gun custodian function, such as maintaining adequate supplies of firearms related equipment (gun cleaning kits, belts, holsters, etc.), making entries into the computerized database to record training and semi-annual qualifications, monitoring the RFID inventory system to ensure functionality, cleaning guns when necessary, making entries in armory command log involving incidents and movement of firearms, and maintaining liaison with the NYPD License Division ; inspect, audit, and manage the contract guard force as directed; perform confidential investigations and other duties of a confidential nature as required. Plan and schedule adequate training courses to accommodate personnel. Train and provide resources to personnel to ensure regulatory compliance.
Education and Experience

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five (5) years of fulltime experience as an investigator, of which one (1) year must have been as an investigator in the field; or

A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Desired Skills
  • Possess a valid handgun license within the State of New York and be eligible to obtain a handgun Carry Guard License in New York City
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License with no restrictions
  • Certified as a Firearms Instructor
  • Experience in supervising and/or managing security operations and/or personnel
  • Knowledge of security access and controls
  • Knowledge of CCTV camera surveillance system monitoring
  • Knowledge of the principles of firearms instruction and the regulations for NYS Armed Security Guards
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and exercise good judgment
  • PC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work in a high-volume environment
  • Knowledge of training and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of audit procedures
