A Special Hazards Designer is responsible for using AutoCAD and other design software to create accurate and clear design documents, schematics, and layouts of fire suppression/special hazards systems.
Work Location: This is a US-Based remote role
Pay Range: $95,000 - $110,000 annually. The posted salary range reflects the anticipated hiring range for this position at the time of posting and is provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual starting pay will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, education, internal equity, geographic location (where applicable), and market considerations. Not all candidates will be hired at the top of the posted range. The posted range reflects base salary only and does not include any applicable bonuses, commissions, overtime, or the value of employee benefits. Eligible employees may participate in the Company's benefit programs, subject to the terms and eligibility requirements of each plan.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and specify detailed fire alarm and clean agent fire suppression systems adhering to local, state, and national codes, regulations, and standards.
- Perform field surveys and attend project specific meetings
- Conduct thorough reviews of construction drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with the scope of work and jurisdictional requirements
- Provide expert technical advice and solutions to complex design challenges.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and client teams to ensure specifications and designs meet quality and safety standards.
- Manage and oversee multiple design projects from concept through completion
- Prepare design packages for permit applications and make corrections as needed.
- Maintain strong working relationships with the Hiller technicians and office staff to facilitate effective communications and exceptional customer service
- Stay updated with latest technologies and changes in fire protection regulations.

What We Are Looking For:- HS/GED required, some college preferred
- NICET III certification or higher required in Special Hazards Systems
- Experience with other fire protection disciplines is a plus.
- Extensive experience with AutoCAD design software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of fire protection systems and applicable codes (NFPA, IFC, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and in a remote setting, managing time effectively and meeting project deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements- While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects
- Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending and kneeling for extended periods
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
- Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
