Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Special Education Finance and Medicaid Coordinator for Business Services is responsible for the financial support for the Special Education department, Medicaid, and the management of grants available through state and federal government agencies and private and public foundations for the benefit of the intermediate school district and constituent school districts. Provides supervision of business office staff members supporting special education finance and related grants. Responsible for supporting all special education funds including but not limited to K-12, Early On, IDEA, Medicaid, DR vs. MDE funds and all related financial reporting. Additionally, this position works as a liaison between the Special Education department and Business Services to ensure compliance with Medicaid grant requirements, grant audits, grant drawdowns, invoicing, expenditure reports, and budget development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field, including advanced coursework in accounting and business management. Graduate coursework and MSBO certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or business management, including grant fund management and the use of technology to improve business operations. Educational business experience preferred.
  • Oversees Special Education grant and financial operations, including budgets, expenditures, drawdowns, reporting, sub-grants, account setup, and fiscal compliance.
  • Coordinates Medicaid financial activities, including reporting, reimbursement calculations, annual reconciliations, and related district/PSA payments.
  • Prepares, reviews, and reconciles required Special Education financial reports, including SE-4096, SE-4094, Maintenance of Effort, Excess Cost, Act 18, and DR vs. MDE Fund reporting.
  • Serves as a financial resource and liaison for Special Education, Business Services, district staff, and constituent districts, providing training and technical assistance related to grants, Medicaid, budgets, and allowable costs.
  • Supervises assigned business office staff, coordinates workflow, supports grant and fiscal audits, develops complex financial reports using SchoolsOPEN and other applications, and identifies opportunities to improve financial processes and recordkeeping systems.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $78,540 - $107,488 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience

Work Schedule: 261 days, 7.5 hours per day
