Job Summary

Join the Restaurant Associates culinary team at The Restaurant at Glider, located within the iconic American Museum of Natural History. As Sous Chef, you will support the successful operation of the culinary department while assisting across restaurant outlets, catering functions, and special events throughout the museum as needed.

Working closely with the Executive Chef, you will help oversee daily kitchen operations, support menu development, lead culinary team members, and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality food and hospitality. This role is ideal for a collaborative culinary professional who enjoys a dynamic, high-volume environment and is excited to contribute to both restaurant and event operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Executive Chef with the day-to-day management of culinary operations.
  • Supervise, support, and develop hourly culinary associates.
  • Prepare and oversee the production of high-quality menu items, ensuring consistency and presentation standards.
  • Assist with planning and creating menus, daily features, and seasonal offerings.
  • Execute catering events and support special event operations throughout the museum.
  • Support additional dining outlets and hospitality initiatives as business needs require.
  • Assist with inventory management, purchasing, and product ordering.
  • Monitor food quality, food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Support food cost management and operational efficiencies.
  • Partner with Restaurant Associates' culinary and marketing teams to introduce new culinary programs and menu concepts.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented kitchen culture focused on exceptional guest experiences.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience in culinary operations, restaurant kitchens, or foodservice environments.
  • Experience supporting or leading teams in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
  • Catering, banquet, or special event experience is a plus.
  • Experience in high-volume and complex foodservice operations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety, sanitation, and presentation standards.
  • Understanding of food cost controls, inventory management, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, email, and internet-based systems.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional guest and client experiences.
  • ServSafe certification is preferred but not required.
