San Diego's St. Paul's PACE program (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). This innovative program is for individuals 55 years or older, who are living with chronic illness, or disabilities and need coordinated medical care to continue living as independently as possible in their home and community. The healthcare teams at St. Paul's PACE provide a hands-on approach coordinating medical, social, and home care services so individuals no longer need to manage their medical care alone.
This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM. Work is primarily performed on-site. Job Summary:The Solutions Engineer serves as a hands-on builder at the intersection of software development, AI integration, and operational strategy. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying intelligent internal applications that leverage large language models (LLMs) and modern development frameworks to streamline workflows, reduce manual overhead, and drive measurable efficiency gains across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a self-directed problem-solver who moves comfortably between writing production code, evaluating emerging AI capabilities, collaborating with operations stakeholders, and maintaining the systems they build - all in service of making the organization faster and smarter.
Duties and Responsibilities:Application Development & Engineering- Design and build full-stack internal web applications using PHP, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages, following modern software architecture patterns.
- Develop and maintain APIs, microservices, and integrations that connect internal systems with third-party platforms.
- Ensure code quality through documentation, version control (Git), and peer review practices.
LLM & AI Integration- Integrate large language model APIs (e.g., OpenAI GPT-5, Anthropic Claude) into internal tools to enable intelligent automation, natural language interfaces, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Prompt engineer and iterate on system prompts, context management strategies, and output parsing to ensure reliable, production-grade AI behavior.
- Evaluate emerging LLM capabilities and recommend adoption where they deliver clear operational value.
Operational Efficiency & Process Automation- Partner with department leaders and end users to identify high-friction workflows and translate them into scoped software solutions.
- Automate repetitive, manual, or error-prone operational processes through intelligent tooling and workflow orchestration.
- Instrument applications with reporting and analytics to surface usage patterns and quantify efficiency improvements.
Systems Integration & Infrastructure- Build integrations with enterprise platforms including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure Active Directory, and third-party SaaS tools via REST APIs and Microsoft Graph.
- Deploy and manage applications on IIS/Windows Server and cloud environments, maintaining security, uptime, and performance.
- Collaborate with IT and infrastructure teams to ensure deployed solutions meet organizational security and compliance requirements.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication- Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical requirements and project scopes.
- Communicate development progress, architectural decisions, and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders in plain language.
- Provide training and documentation to support end-user adoption of newly deployed tools.
QualificationsRequired- 3+ years of experience in software development, solutions engineering, or a related technical role.
- Proficiency in one or more server-side languages (PHP, Python, Node.js) and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Demonstrated experience integrating and deploying LLM/AI APIs in production applications.
- Working knowledge of RESTful API design and consumption, SQL databases, and web application architecture.
- Experience with Azure Entra ID (SSO/OAuth/SAML) and Microsoft Graph API.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects, and deliver without heavy oversight.
Preferred- Experience deploying PHP or ASP.NET applications on IIS/Windows Server.
- Familiarity with AI prompt engineering techniques, RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), and vector databases.
- Prior experience in healthcare, senior services, or regulated environments (HIPAA awareness a plus).
- Background in process improvement, operations, or business analysis alongside engineering.
- Exposure to SharePoint Online document library integration and Microsoft 365 administration.
