Solutions Engineer with strong systems engineering expertise, deep technical breadth, and proven technical credibility to support DARPA product teams.
This role spans systems-focused and security-focused product lines, requiring an engineer who can operate as both a solutions architect and a hands-on implementer. You will design, implement, and integrate advanced technologies across secure, classified, and air-gapped environments while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
You will lead engineering projects end-to-end, drive architectural decisions, and continuously evolve our technical posture through learning and modern engineering practices.
Responsibilities- Architect, design, and implement Linux- and Windows-based enterprise systems, backend services, orchestration platforms, and secure infrastructure components.
- Support solution architecture and technical design for emerging DARPA product capabilities, producing system diagrams, interface definitions, and integration patterns.
- Apply deep technical breadth across systems engineering, networking, cybersecurity, cloud, data flows, automation, and distributed systems to solve complex technical challenges.
- Serve as a trusted technical authority, demonstrating strong technical credibility with engineering peers, stakeholders, and customer counterparts.
- Engineer, integrate, and maintain security tools (SIEM, SOAR, EDR, vulnerability management, host and network sensors).
- Lead systems hardening, secure configurations, STIG implementation, and cybersecurity compliance activities.
- Collaborate across cross-functional product teams (systems, software, security, cloud, DevOps, research) to align engineering decisions with mission and product goals.
- Develop automation and CI/CD workflows-including air-gapped pipelines-for deployment, testing, and configuration management.
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting across hybrid infrastructures, distributed services, and mission-critical operational environments.
- Continuously evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and methods, demonstrating continuous learning and adaptability to evolving mission needs.
- Ensure project transition success by delivering strong documentation, knowledge transfer, and sustainment handoff to receiving teams.
- Provide occasional after-hours support to sustain critical operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in systems engineering, software/application development, or security engineering, including:
- 3+ years in classified or air-gapped environments
- CompTIA Security+
- DoD IAT Level II or III Certification (or ability to obtain)
- DoD Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility, with the ability to obtain CI Polygraph
Preferred Qualifications:- Successfully pass background and drug screening
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Technical Depth & Breadth- Deep technical breadth across Linux systems, virtualization, networking, cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and distributed system design.
- Strong experience with Microsoft and Linux engineering (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu Server), SELinux, kernel tuning, systemd, and OS-level security.
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Chef) and infrastructure automation.
- Hands-on experience with virtualization (VMware, KVM) and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift).
- Ability to architect, design, and document complex systems and security solutions.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) in secure or regulated environments, and good understanding of automation and CI/CD pipelines in air-gapped or restricted networks.
Security Tools & Frameworks- Experience integrating and operating SIEM/SOAR platforms (Splunk, Cortex, QRadar, Sentinel).
- Familiarity with EDR, IDS/IPS, OSQuery, Suricata, Zeek, Tenable/Nessus, and hardening frameworks.
- Strong understanding of NIST, STIGs, RMF, ATO processes, and security architecture.
Solution Architecture & Technical Credibility- Demonstrated ability to support architectural decisions, evaluate alternatives, and propose secure, scalable system designs.
- Respected as a technical leader with the ability to influence engineering decisions and gain buy-in from diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to present solutions to leadership, external partners, and government stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
Cross-Functional Leadership- Proven experience working with multidisciplinary teams across systems engineering, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, cloud, software development, and operational teams.
