Full Job Description
We are seeking a Solutions Architect to join our team and support our federal customer.

The position will be responsible for assessing and documenting current state architecture, developing future state architecture and plans, data risks and inefficiencies, systems context/flows, SOA's, data services and architecture governance.

The Solution Architect will serve as the senior technical authority responsible for the architecture, modernization strategy, cloud infrastructure design, and overall technical direction supporting a CMS System. This individual will ensure the platform remains scalable, secure, cost-efficient, and aligned with CMS enterprise architecture standards while supporting modernization efforts and future innovation initiatives.

*This position is contingent upon contract award.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture supporting Systems operating within the CMS AWS environment.
  • Design and maintain scalable cloud-native architectures supporting high-volume batch processing of approximately 10 million transactions daily.
  • Lead cloud optimization initiatives focused on improving performance, reducing AWS consumption costs, and improving resiliency.
  • Architect integration patterns supporting internal and external data exchanges across CMS enterprise systems, APIs, and downstream repositories.
  • Develop modernization strategies supporting serverless architectures, event-driven design patterns, and future AI/ML integration opportunities.
  • Provide technical oversight of disaster recovery architecture supporting 99.9% system availability requirements.
  • Collaborate with CMS architecture teams ensuring alignment with CMS Technical Reference Architecture (TRA), CMS Target Lifecycle (TLC), and enterprise governance standards.
  • Support technical leadership during Agile Program Increment (PI) planning and release execution.

Work Experience and Job Skills:

Required:
  • 10 + years of experience in federal technology solutioning architecture supporting complex mission environments.
  • Proven success in leading large, complex solution efforts in federal health domain.
  • Deep experience in application modernization, enterprise cloud deployments, secure DevSecOps practices, and cross-domain solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop architectural artifacts (views, models, roadmaps, diagrams) and guide cross-organizational technical decisions.

Preferred:
  • Experience supporting Federal Health agencies, particularly CMS or HHS, including enterprise systems, multi-agency or mission partner environments, and large-scale healthcare modernization initiatives.
  • Understanding of research and development (R&D) initiatives and the transition of innovative technologies into operational mission environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional, matrixed organizations without direct authority.
  • Experience with Medicare claims processing, healthcare transaction systems, or healthcare data exchange platforms.
  • Knowledge of AWS cost optimization strategies and cloud financial management within large enterprise environments.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree required with a concentration in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing all levels of organization.
  • Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner.

Travel:
  • This position is primarily Remote. Willing to travel (up to 5%) occasionally.

Environmental Requirements:
  • Mainly sedentary; in an office environment.
