Full Job Description
This position requires in-person collaboration up to five days a week. This arrangement is subject to change based on business requirements.

Overview of role:

The Solution Architect, Data is accountable for the development and maturity of information and data architecture and contributes to the organization's data framework. The role will be responsible for developing and promoting the data practice with adherence to our standards through collaboration. The role will also provide enterprise guidance on the frameworks, patterns, platforms, and flow of information from transactional/operational data systems to data stores for operational and analytical purposes and WestJet's overall data landscape.

Key deliverables include:
• Develops and maintains a stable, viable architecture and ensures consistency of design and adherence to appropriate standards across multiple projects or initiatives.
• Works with broad expertise/ unique knowledge and uses skills to contribute to the development of company objectives/principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways in domain specific areas of technology.
• Applies advanced and/or broad knowledge and would be considered a top resource across the organization.
• Demonstrates expert knowledge in all areas of Data, with a strong understanding of adjacent areas of technology (for the development of pragmatic and creative solutions).
• Acts as a thought leader and would be externally recognized as a top "go-to" individual.
• Translates highly complex requirements, from both business and technical teams, into objectives, plans, specifications, resources, and long-term goals.
• Subject matter expert who possesses the advanced knowledge of the work specialty and organization.
• Serves as an advisor to management from projects to a strategy level; driving appropriate actions, while ensuring implementation of compliance and communication protocols.
• Takes full ownership of tasks and assignments with accountability and transparency.
• Independently determines methods and procedures on assignments/department initiatives and coordinates activities.
• Guides and mentors' colleagues, at all levels, sharing experience and technical knowledge.
• Contributes to the development of department strategy, operational objectives, and matters of significance.
• Creates and manages an internal relationship network amongst Digital teams, leaders, and the architecture community.
• Anticipates business needs, secures required resources, and leads initiatives to implement change in the organization.

Experience and qualifications:
• Master's or PhD Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or Information Security and 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Domain certification required
• Demonstrated leadership skills, providing mentorship and technical guidance to other team members
• Requires expert problem-solving skills and advanced interpersonal and communication skills including influencing others
• In-depth experience with tiered physical and logical data architectures and patterns
• Understanding and experience with various source types such as streaming and event data and data base technologies
• Strong understanding of development architecture such as API, web services, etc.
• Excellent understanding of data privacy, cloud security, application security, platform security, authentication security and database security controls
• Hands-on experience with Big Data Platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Hadoop
• Understanding and experience with various Reporting, Self-Service, Data warehousing or Data Mart
• Understanding of orchestration, ingestion, and transformation tooling
• Understanding of domain related architecture frameworks viz. SABSA and familiar with architectural frameworks and toolsets, including TOGAF, Archimate and the C4 model
• Understanding or experience with Governance processes, classifications, and tooling
• Understanding of industry best practices and applicable regulatory requirements, including PCI, PIPEDA, GDPR, CCPA
• Familiar with network protocols and networking infrastructure and good knowledge of network threat landscape and controls to address them
• Understands the strategic technical direction of:
o Middleware
o Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
o Testing
o Systems Mgmt.
o Enterprise Data & Access Layers
• Good knowledge of project management methodology and its applicability to successful delivery of technical change
