Job Requirements
Job Description: Solution Architect (Onshore) - Real-Time Analytics Platform Migration
About the Engagement
Virtusa is delivering an analytics platform migration for a large media/publishing client, replacing legacy analytics tooling with a unified real-time event collection layer landing in a cloud data warehouse under a Bronze/Silver/Gold medallion architecture, built on event-driven platforms similar to Snowplow, Segment, or mParticle. The program spans four deliverables:
D1 - Real-Time Newsroom Web UI (custom replacement for a legacy real-time analytics dashboard)
D2 - Executive Audience Goals Dashboard (BI tool reconnection to warehouse-sourced Gold data)
D3 - Enablement of event tracking for a secondary editorial property (accelerated track, hard deadline)
D4 - Gold-layer pipeline repointing for the client's top 5 analytics dashboards
This is a staff-augmentation, T&M engagement where the client owns program management; the vendor team supplements the client's implementation team rather than operating independently. The Solution Architect is the sole onshore technical anchor for the engagement, working closely with an offshore delivery team.
Role Purpose
The Solution Architect owns end-to-end technical solutioning and delivery oversight across all four deliverables, acts as the primary technical counterpart to the client's Data Engineering team, and ensures architectural consistency between the Gold-layer pipeline work (Data Practice) and the newsroom UI work (UI Practice). This role is the single point of technical accountability onshore and is expected to be embedded in daily client-facing collaboration, not just internal delivery oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Own the technical architecture for Gold-layer pipeline design (dbt/Airflow on a cloud data warehouse platform) and its integration points with the Real-Time Newsroom Web UI and Audience Goals Dashboard.
Serve as primary technical liaison to client Data Engineering, Data Collection, and Program Management stakeholders; represent Virtusa in technical design discussions and Q1 joint-discovery sessions.
Translate ambiguous or not-yet-final requirements into concrete technical specifications, in coordination with the Solution Lead.
Drive resolution of open architectural dependencies: Bronze/Silver readiness handoff, event-tracker instrumentation gaps, reconciliation tolerance thresholds, hosting platform confirmation, and role-based access model.
Provide hands-on technical direction to the offshore engineering team (Data, UI Build, UX Design streams); review designs and key implementation decisions.
Own delivery risk management for the accelerated-track deliverable given its hard deadline and out-of-band design process.
Ensure data quality, parity validation (vs. legacy platform baselines), and observability/runbook standards meet client Data Engineering conventions (dbt, managed workflow orchestration, standard linting/pre-commit tooling).
Support sprint-level planning and resourcing decisions, including uneven quarter-over-quarter workload across the program.
Escalate scope, timeline, or dependency risks proactively to the Solution Lead.
Contribute to post-launch support, knowledge-transfer planning, and documentation handover to the client's Data Engineering team.
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years in data/solution architecture roles, including at least 3+ years in cloud data warehouse-based medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery).
Hands-on experience with event-driven data collection platforms such as Snowplow, Segment, or mParticle as a source system.
Strong dbt and workflow orchestration experience (e.g., Airflow); familiarity with managed orchestration bridges (e.g., Astronomer Cosmos) is a plus.
Experience architecting real-time or near-real-time analytics pipelines for high-concurrency, low-latency use cases (media/publishing/editorial analytics experience strongly preferred).
Experience with data migration/parity validation projects - legacy vendor analytics tool to modern in-house replacement.
Working knowledge of front-end/full-stack architecture sufficient to coordinate with a UI-build team (role does not require hands-on front-end development).
Experience operating in T&M, staff-augmentation delivery models with a client-owned PMO.
Strong client-facing communication skills; comfortable representing technical positions directly to enterprise client stakeholders.
Experience managing or technically directing offshore delivery teams.
Familiarity with SSO/Okta-based role access models and enterprise data governance frameworks.
Nice to Have
Prior experience with BI tool (e.g., Tableau) integration/repointing projects.
Experience in newsroom/editorial analytics tooling (Parse.ly, Chartbeat, or similar).
AWS certification or hands-on AWS/EKS/Istio experience.
