Job Description:
The RoleWe are looking for a hands-on Solutions Architect with strong engineering judgment who can build, not just design. This role owns architecture across all Rate Insurance technology and is accountable for turning ideas into simple, scalable, and cost-effective solutions.
You will operate across product, engineering, security, DevOps, and other technology teams across the broader Rate family. You will help set direction and step in to prototype, validate, and solve complex technical challenges when needed. You will work across systems and teams to move initiatives forward and solve problems end-to-end.
This role is not just about internal systems. You will help improve how independent insurance is distributed, serviced, and marketed through technology. Carriers will continue to have varying technical capabilities. Your job is to design solutions that work across that reality, abstract complexity where possible, and create a consistent, high-quality experience for agents and customers.
This is a hands-on architecture role, not an ivory tower role.
You will operate in a lean, fast-moving environment where simplicity, speed, and cost-effective solutions matter as much as technical design.
What You Do- Own end-to-end architecture across Rate Insurance systems, ensuring architectural integrity, simplicity, scalability, and production readiness across core platforms, integrations, services, data, and AI-enabled workflows
- Design scalable, API-first solutions, including microservices and event-driven patterns, primarily in AWS
- Lead POCs for product-led initiatives that improve agent workflows across carrier capabilities, validating ideas and engaging where needed to unblock engineering teams
- Identify, prototype, and help implement AI-enabled workflows through LLM-powered copilots, retrieval-augmented generation, intelligent decisioning, and emerging agent-based patterns where practical
- Collaborate with engineering teams on data architecture across databases, pipelines, and data lake and data warehouse patterns
- Partner across Product, Engineering, DevOps, Information Security, and other Rate technology teams to design, align, and deliver solutions
- Define integration and data flow patterns across systems, including event-driven architectures and ETL or ELT pipelines to enable scale, speed, and reliability
- Establish pragmatic architecture standards and guardrails that enable delivery rather than slow it down
- Bring an art of the possible mindset grounded in execution and results
What Makes You Successful in This Role- You are a builder with strong technical judgment. You design and deliver real systems and move ideas from concept to POC to production quickly
- You think big and operate with ownership. You challenge constraints and take accountability for outcomes and tradeoffs
- You have grit and move with urgency. You stay on problems until they are solved and drive progress without waiting for perfect conditions
- You embrace change and thrive in ambiguity. You adapt quickly and bring clarity in fast-moving environments
- You are pragmatic and cost-conscious. You avoid overengineering, leverage existing or low-cost tools, and invest where it matters
- You bring practical AI and data architecture expertise. You have hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, workflow automation, and modern data systems, and understand tradeoffs across cost, latency, and scalability
- You navigate complexity and collaborate effectively. You work across product, engineering, security, and partners to simplify systems and deliver unified solutions
- You elevate the team. You support and unblock others, operate without ego, avoid blame, and hold yourself and the team to a high standard
- You love what you do. You stay current on emerging technologies and bring new ideas into the organization
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical leadership, or related technology roles
- Proven experience designing and delivering production-grade solutions across APIs, integrations, cloud platforms, data systems, and enterprise applications
- Experience working primarily in AWS with exposure to Google Cloud, along with CI/CD, DevOps, and secure integration patterns
- Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform, and container orchestration platforms, such as Kubernetes preferred
- Experience designing and implementing data architectures including relational databases, data lakes or warehouses, and data pipelines supporting analytics and AI use cases
- Experience partnering and collaborating with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and Information Security
- Experience with AI-enabled solutions, automation, or modern data-driven architectures preferred; strong curiosity and ability to learn emerging AI patterns required
- CRM ecosystem experience preferred
- Insurance experience is helpful but not required
