Position Overview The Software Systems Engineer formulates and defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications and modifies or maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and manufacturer utilities. The engineer designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents these programs. Furthermore, this role provides overall operating-system maintenance (including sophisticated file maintenance routines, managing large telecommunications networks, computer accounting, and advanced mathematical/scientific software packages), assists in all phases of systems programming, and evaluates new and existing software products.
Day-To-Day Duties and Responsibilities- Formulate and define specifications for complex operating software programming applications.
- Modify and maintain complex existing applications using manufacturer utilities and engineering releases.
- Design, code, test, debug, and document software programs.
- Provide overall operating-system maintenance, including handling sophisticated file maintenance routines and computer accounting.
- Support and manage large telecommunications networks as well as advanced mathematical/scientific software packages.
- Assist in all phases of software systems programming applications.
- Evaluate new and existing software products.
Minimum QualificationsProven expertise in complex operating system (OS) and software programming.
Hands-on capability utilizing engineering releases and vendor utilities to maintain or modify enterprise applications.
Practical experience supporting and maintaining large-scale telecommunications networks.
Experience working with and maintaining advanced mathematical and scientific software packages.
Clearance: Secret preferred
