Amentum is seeking a Software QA / Test Engineer 3 to support the software development of a mission-focused cyber security training solution program in Hanover, MD. The position provides software verification and validation expertise across multiple development teams supporting a diverse portfolio of cyber security training systems, applications, and services.  The Software QA / Test Engineer 3 works across the full software development lifecycle to establish effective testing practices, support development teams with test activities, and ensure software capabilities meet defined requirements before deployment. The position provides technical leadership for verification and validation activities while remaining actively involved in test development, execution, analysis, and improvement. 

This position is ideal for an experienced QA or test engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, establishing effective testing practices, working across multiple technical disciplines, and improving the quality and reliability of software and supporting systems.  Unlike a QA role focused on a single application or development team, this position supports testing across the program's software development groups and product portfolio. The engineer will work with developers, system administrators, instructors, and other technical personnel to establish consistent testing practices while adapting those practices to the needs of individual systems and capabilities

Work Schedule:

The courses being supported are active from 0700-1800 M-F. Contract core hours are 1000-1400. The DevOps team is flexible on arrival and departure time however there are occasions where one or more DevOps team members will be needed to support testing and maintenance before or after course hours. 

Essential Responsibilities:

The Software QA / Test Engineer 3 will provide technical leadership for software and system verification and validation activities across the program. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve program-level software and system testing strategies, methodologies, and standards.  
• Develop, maintain, and execute test plans, procedures, cases, scripts, and automated tests supporting software and hardware verification.  
• Author, maintain, and improve the System Verification Plan, ensuring testing activities remain aligned with customer-approved requirements and program processes.  
• Define and maintain release acceptance criteria, regression testing methodologies, and verification requirements for scheduled maintenance and production releases.  
• Evaluate requirements and system changes to identify appropriate verification methods, test coverage, dependencies, and potential impacts across applications and supporting infrastructure.  
• Establish and maintain SOPs for software testing, including test preparation, execution, documentation, defect handling, and verification of corrective actions. 
• Coordinate verification and validation activities across the program's development teams to promote consistent testing practices and ensure compliance with the System Verification Plan.  
• Support development teams in designing and implementing effective unit, integration, system, regression, and acceptance tests.  
• Analyze test results, investigate failures, identify defects and root causes, and coordinate resolution and retesting with development and technical teams.  
• Develop and maintain automated testing solutions and identify opportunities to improve test coverage, repeatability, and efficiency.  
• Perform verification and restoration-to-service testing following system outages, maintenance activities, and significant configuration changes.  
• Maintain complete, traceable, and audit-ready test evidence supporting releases, maintenance activities, and system verification.  
• Review software and system designs, requirements, and implementation changes to identify testability concerns and opportunities to improve quality.  
• Collaborate with developers, system administrators, instructors, and other technical teams to resolve defects and improve system quality and reliability.  
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced QA and test personnel.  
• Evaluate testing tools, methodologies, and technologies and recommend improvements that provide measurable benefits to the program.  

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

The Development teams work in both a SCIF and non-SCIF environments at a contractor site. 

The position requires working with software and integrated training systems in development, test, and operational environments. Work may include extended periods of computer use, test execution, troubleshooting, analysis, documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary technical teams. 

• Establish effective testing practices while adapting them to the needs of different development teams and systems.  
• Balance thorough verification with practical testing approaches that support development and release schedules.  
• Apply sound engineering judgment to determine appropriate test coverage, methodologies, and acceptance criteria.  
• Work collaboratively with developers and technical teams to identify and resolve defects rather than treating testing as a separate phase of development.  
• Maintain accurate, traceable, and defensible test documentation and evidence.  
• Identify opportunities to improve test automation, coverage, repeatability, and efficiency.  
• Communicate test results, risks, defects, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.  
• Share testing knowledge and mentor developer, QA and test personnel.  
• Continuously expand knowledge of the program's applications, infrastructure, and training environments to improve verification effectiveness. 

Security Clearance Required:

• TS/SCI with Poly 

Minimum Education & Years of Experience:

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and eight (8) years of applicable experience in software QA/testing is required.

• OR A Bachelor’s Degree and thirteen (13) years of experience.

• Demonstrated experience leading testing planning and producing audit-ready validation evidence for releases and maintenance events is required.

Required Certifications:

• Sec+ or equivalent 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience developing and executing software or system test plans, test cases, test procedures, and verification activities.  
• Demonstrated experience analyzing requirements and developing testing approaches to verify system functionality and compliance with requirements.  
• Experience developing or maintaining automated software tests and/or test automation frameworks.  
• Experience with software development and testing practices, including source control, defect tracking, test documentation, and regression testing.  
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.  
• Experience testing applications and systems in virtualized, containerized, or integrated environments.  
• Experience working with Agile software development methodologies.  
• Demonstrated ability to analyze test results, troubleshoot complex failures, identify defects, and work with development teams to resolve issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate has experience establishing and improving software quality practices across multiple development teams and working throughout the software development lifecycle. 

Preferred experience includes:

• Developing and executing software/system verification/validation activities.  
• Authoring and maintaining system verification plans, test plans, test procedures, SOPs, and release acceptance criteria.  
• Developing automated tests and test automation using scripting languages, testing frameworks, or CI/CD tools.  
• Performing functional, integration, system, regression, performance, and acceptance testing.  
• Working with Git-based development workflows and CI/CD pipelines.  
• Testing applications deployed in Linux and Windows environments, including virtualized and containerized systems.  
• Testing integrated software systems and troubleshooting issues across system and network boundaries.  
• Maintaining requirements traceability and audit-ready test documentation.  
• Using defect tracking, test management, and test reporting tools.  
• Applying Agile development and continuous integration practices to software testing.  
• Developing scripts and automation to improve test repeatability and efficiency
