Position SummaryThe Software QA Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software applications through the development and execution of comprehensive testing strategies. This role works closely with software developers, business stakeholders, and project teams to identify defects, validate functionality, and support the successful deployment of high-quality software solutions.
Leveraging industry best practices in Quality Assurance, the Software QA Engineer participates throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), creating and executing functional test plans, documenting and tracking defects, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within Agile and traditional development environments.

Essential Duties / ResponsibilitiesQuality Assurance & Testing- Develop, maintain, and execute functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance test plans and test cases.
- Validate software applications to ensure functionality, performance, usability, and reliability meet business and technical requirements.
- Perform manual testing of web-based applications, APIs, and integrated systems.
- Execute testing throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to support successful software releases.
- Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects through resolution.
- Verify defect corrections and conduct regression testing to ensure system stability.
Software Development Lifecycle Support- Collaborate with software developers, business analysts, and project stakeholders throughout development and release activities.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Review business and technical requirements to ensure testability and quality expectations are clearly defined.
- Provide feedback on software design, functionality, and usability from a quality assurance perspective.
- Support both Agile and traditional software development methodologies as required.
Defect Management & Process Improvement- Create detailed defect reports including reproduction steps, expected results, and impact assessments.
- Work closely with development teams to troubleshoot issues and validate solutions.
- Monitor testing progress and communicate quality risks, concerns, and recommendations to project stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve testing processes, standards, documentation, and overall software quality practices.
- Contribute to quality assurance best practices, methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting- Maintain comprehensive testing documentation, including test plans, test scripts, results, and defect logs.
- Track and report testing progress, defect metrics, and release readiness status.
- Support audit, compliance, and documentation requirements when applicable.
- Ensure testing activities are completed accurately and within established project timelines.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Partner with technical and business teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that support organizational objectives.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing activities and promote quality-focused practices across the technology organization.
- Support special projects and technology initiatives as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a software quality assurance role.
- Experience supporting software quality assurance testing methodologies and SDLC processes.
- Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall development environments.
- Experience utilizing Atlassian tools or similar development and project management platforms.
- Proficiency with test management software.
- Experience performing manual testing of RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and industry-related software applications.
Preferred Skills / AbilitiesAdvanced Technical Experience- Experience testing software applications within Agile or rapid-development environments.
- Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and reporting validation.
- Understanding of software design, software architecture, and programming principles.
- Experience testing applications that utilize OpenAI chatbot technologies or AI-driven functionality.
- Experience with AWS Pinpoint and customer communication platforms.
Cloud & Infrastructure Knowledge- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including:
- Amazon S3
- IAM
- CloudWatch
- API Gateway
- DynamoDB
- Basic understanding of LAN/WAN networking concepts.
- Understanding of physical and virtual infrastructure environments.
- Experience working within UNIX or Linux environments.
Testing & Diagnostic Tools- Experience with browser and network monitoring tools such as:
- HTTPWatch
- FireBug
- Wireshark
- Fiddler
- Familiarity with application monitoring, debugging, and diagnostic practices.
Industry Experience- Prior experience within Retail Pharmacy, Mail Order Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy, PBM, Pharmaceutical, Managed Healthcare, or other regulated healthcare environments preferred.
- Understanding of healthcare technology systems, compliance requirements, and healthcare operational workflows is beneficial.
Work Environment- Home-based office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse working conditions.
- May require occasional local and/or overnight travel for meetings, training, conferences, or business-related activities.
- Travel may include automobile and air transportation.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time while utilizing computers, monitors, and other office equipment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, when necessary, to support project deadlines, software releases, and business requirements.
