Overview

Come join the team that builds the operating system behind Windows 365 Link! We're part of Windows Cloud Experiences (WCX), which provides best-in-class virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution to enable millions of customers to work with virtual Cloud PCs. Our team has created a new Windows-based operating system running on a purpose-built device designed to be the best version of the Cloud PC experience.

As a Software Engineer, you will build experiences using the latest advances in the Windows platform, cloud/client computing, and web UI development. You'll partner with Product Management and Design to develop ideas that solve customer problems and build prototypes that help us learn quickly. Using telemetry and customer insights, you'll continuously learn from real-world usage and help shape the evolution of the product. This opportunity will allow you to lay the foundation of your career through experience navigating a massive code base and through using advanced AI tools to accelerate your development loop without sacrificing quality. You'll also contribute to engineering systems, test infrastructure, and developer tools that improve the product and team efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • You will contribute in partnership with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature and consider a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes.
  • You will learn and contribute to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and learn to create proposals by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans under the technical leadership of others as well as help produce code to test hypotheses for technical solutions and assist with technical validation efforts.
  • With guidance, you will learn to create and implement code that is extensible and maintainable and apply diagnosability, reliability and maintainability, and understand when the code is ready to be shared and delivered for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.
  • You will learn to review work items to gain knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and assist and learn about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation as well as escalate any issues that would cause a delay.
  • You will help develop and contribute to automation within production and deployment of a product feature and run code in simulated or other non-production environments to confirm functionality and error-free runtime for products with oversight.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year.
