Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience in distributed, microservices based software development.
  • Experience with some combination of: Formal Methods/Verification, SDN match-action forwarding paradigm (e.g. OpenFlow or P4).

As part of the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) Core team, you will own the framework, components, and applications for Google's Orion SDN infrastructure. You'll help define how over 200 developers build networking products, including high-bandwidth interconnects and WAN connectivity. You will support a massive, global distributed system to ensure maximum availability.

In this role, you will work on the world's largest SDN deployment, driving innovations in convergence, capacity, security, and low-latency performance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team software engineers responsible for developing the SDN framework, applications and tools to enable various networking innovations and deployments at scale.
  • Collaborate across Networking Infrastructure and Cloud with product managers, technical program managers, and other software engineer managers on applications built for the Google data center.
  • Define a goal and long-term strategy for the team, identifying, recommending, and executing improvements to SDN Infrastructure.
  • Drive all aspects of development including requirements definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and integration, building flexible technology to deliver highly-available, easily-evolvable networking infrastructure, while upholding high standards in Product Excellence and developing infrastructure to support large scale system operations.
  • Mentor individual engineers focusing on alignment of long-term career goals to project priorities and business objectives.
