Job DescriptionSoftware Engineering Director exhibits a mix of technical acumen, strategy and vision, along with the ability to cultivate and grow technical talent. Responsible for designing, developing, implementing and testing a set of technical products in response to an external or internal need. Manager is an advanced technologist enabling strong coding practices and solid design decisions. Builds meaningful relationships with relevant stakeholders and effectively partners to remove organizational obstacles and guide cross-team strategic efforts. Acts as agile/product champion by enabling product teams and partnering with other leaders to drive empowerment, autonomy, engineering momentum, and business value. Fosters a culture of empowerment, engineering excellence, and growth.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Eight or more years of relevant software engineering experience
- Five or more years of experience leading a software engineering team
Preferred Skills/Experience- Strong understanding of information systems, software development lifecycles, and modern engineering practices
- Experience working within banking, payments, or financial services technology environments
- Exposure to branch banking systems, ATM transaction processing, and digital banking integrations
- Proven experience modernizing legacy enterprise platforms into scalable, resilient architectures
- Deep business domain knowledge with the ability to evaluate and communicate technology impact on organizational outcomes
- Robust engineering foundation with the ability to design and deliver scalable product solutions
- Demonstrated leadership experience with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Strong decision-making capabilities with a track record of building consensus and influencing stakeholders
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems, middleware platforms, and transaction processing systems
- Expertise in system design, scalability, and resiliency engineering
- Experience integrating and extending vendor-based platforms within enterprise ecosystems
Location expectationsThis role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $143,905.00 - $169,300.00
