What you'll do

Viasat is looking for an experienced full stack software engineer who enjoys developing performant web applications using modern web technology. We are developing an API and Multi-network satellite orchestration platform that provides real-time situational awareness and command and control capabilities to a global fleet of high value aircraft, and we need your help to drive the product forward leveraging the latest advances in cloud and analytics technology.

The day-to-day

  • Collaborate closely with fellow engineers in an Agile, self-organized Scrum team, sharing ideas and supporting one another to deliver great outcomes.
  • Partner with teammates to develop practical, evolving designs that provide the right level of detail for each situation.
  • Rapidly iterate on customer-focused features, embracing feedback and adapting quickly to meet changing needs.
  • Serve as a frontend or backend subject matter expert, mentoring junior engineers while maintaining a strong understanding of the broader technology stack.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the UX design team to create intuitive, efficient, and engaging user experiences.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve our technology, processes, and team effectiveness, helping drive innovation and growth.

What you'll need

  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing web applications, with expertise in one or more of the following technologies: React, Spring Boot, Python, or Go.
  • Strong understanding of core computer science fundamentals, including software architecture, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Experience building and deploying solutions in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with microservices architectures and modern distributed systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as needed.

What will help you on the job

  • Experience working in Agile development environments and contributing to collaborative, iterative delivery processes.
  • Familiarity with modern React meta-frameworks such as Next.js or TanStack.
  • Experience with database technologies, particularly Redis, Elasticsearch, and TimescaleDB.
  • Interest in or experience with UX/UI design, with an appreciation for creating intuitive user experiences.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and frameworks such as GitHub Actions, Ansible, ArgoCD, or similar technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong interest in leadership opportunities such as serving as a Scrum Master, team lead, or mentor.

Salary range

$117,000.00 - $185,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $145,000.00- $218,000.00/ annually
