Software Engineer

The Role

UST is searching for a Software Engineer with 6+ years of experience to build an intelligent Application Troubleshooting and Observability Platform that provides a 360° view of application health, dependencies, performance, incidents, and infrastructure.

What You'll Do
• Design, develop, and maintain an intelligent Application Troubleshooting and Observability Platform providing a unified 360° view of application health, performance, dependencies, incidents, and infrastructure.
• Build scalable backend services and APIs using Python and modern software engineering practices.
• Develop data ingestion pipelines to collect and process telemetry data from logs, metrics, traces, s, databases, cloud resources, deployment systems, and incident management tools.
• Create data correlation engines that connect signals across multiple systems to identify patterns, anomalies, and operational issues.
• Implement integrations with monitoring, observability, ITSM, and cloud platforms using REST APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Develop agent workflows using frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, or OpenAI Agents SDK.
• Integrate function calling, tool calling, and external system interactions within AI agent architectures.
• Implement Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations where applicable to enable secure and scalable tool connectivity.
• Contribute to AI evaluation frameworks focused on response quality, hallucination reduction, reliability, and responsible AI practices.

What You Need
• Required Skills
• 6+ years of software development experience.
• Strong programming experience in Python or a similar programming language.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, authentication, and API integrations.
• Experience working with SQL and/or KQL.
• Understanding of software development lifecycle, Git, CI/CD, and testing.
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably WCNP/Azure.
• Understanding of application monitoring, logging, and observability.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills. AI / GenAI
• Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI.
• Experience with prompt engineering and structured LLM outputs.
• Experience with function/tool calling and AI agent workflows.
• Experience with one or more agent frameworks such as: OpenAI Agents SDK LangGraph LangChain Semantic Kernel
• Knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) is preferred.
• Understanding of AI agent evaluation, hallucination mitigation, and responsible AI

Location & Compensation

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Remote-US

Compensation Range: $94,000-$141,000

Benefits

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Part-time employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company's 401(k) program with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Part-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).

All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
