PayPal, Inc. seeks Software Engineer in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Develop software solutions for service monitoring, automated remediation, measuring availability and reliability, performance, analytics, network. Design, develop, and deliver software related to platforms at scale. Automate maintenance tasks with easily manageable configurations, solving scalability bottlenecks to improve performance and maximize system availability by ensuring functional and performance SLAs. Design, implement, and test complex, multi-tier distributed software application frameworks collaboratively with peers and technical leaders. Enhance software code quality across multiple projects. Design and execute migration strategies from existing experiences and services to new infrastructure. Isolate errors by trouble-shooting the application stack from application to framework to underlying infrastructure dependencies and network. Troubleshoot issues in a timely manner and recommend the root cause fixes for the issues. Build performance efficient, highly scalable, configurable, and available software applications and systems. Design, develop, and test high throughput back-end software systems. Develop object-oriented software and design, code, and test complex software features. Segment and design technical system layers to support layered software application development, including business logic functionality and database/component repository access. Identify and fix performance, scalability, and other software live issues. Identify and make recommendations to reduce software project risks. Develop innovative technical solutions. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience building REST APIs using Java 21 with Spring Boot 3.x and Spring Data JPA, and Python 3.10+ with Django REST Framework or Flask RESTful to deliver scalable microservices.
2. Experience designing and implementing service interfaces using REST, GraphQL, and gRPC to support secure and reliable interservice communication.
3. Experience with version control systems (Git), automated testing, debugging tools, and collaborative development workflows.
4. Experience deploying microservices on Google Kubernetes Engine and building event driven applications using Google Pub/Sub within GCP environments.
5. Experience optimizing SQL queries, designing efficient schemas in MySQL/PostgreSQL, working with Cloud Spanner as a distributed relational database, and implementing scalable NoSQL data models.
6. Experience applying secure coding practices, authentication and authorization mechanisms (such as OAuth2 or JWT), managing secrets, and ensuring data protection compliance.
7. Experience applying fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, or complexity analysis to build efficient systems.
8. Experience working with distributed data processing frameworks such as Hadoop or Apache Spark for analytics and large scale data processing tasks.
9. Experience applying machine learning or AI methods including model training, inference, classification, regression, clustering, and use of ML frameworks.
10. Experience with concepts of multi threading, synchronization, and parallel processing, and applying them to build efficient or responsive software systems.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

San Jose, California | Salary: $137,669.00-198,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
