JOB DESCRIPTION

DESCRIPTION:

Duties: Design, develop and implement software solutions. Solve business problems through innovation and engineering practices. Involved in all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) including analyzing requirements, incorporating architectural standards into application design specifications, documenting application specifications, translating technical requirements into programmed application modules, and developing or enhancing software application modules. Identify or troubleshoot application code-related issues. Take active role in code reviews to ensure solutions are aligned to pre-defined architectural specifications. Assist with design reviews by recommending ways to incorporate requirements into designs and information or data flows. Participate in project planning sessions with project managers, business analysts, and team members to analyze business requirements and outline proposed solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum education and experience required: Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field of study plus three (3) years of experience in the job offered or as Software Engineer, Applications Engineer, IT Consultant, or related occupation. The employer will alternatively accept a Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or related field of study plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or as Software Engineer, Applications Engineer, IT Consultant, or related occupation.

Skills Required: This position requires experience with the following: Administering and troubleshooting Linux and Windows Server environments using shell scripting, PowerShell, cron, and configuration management tools to ensure availability and security; leading software delivery using Agile by conducting sprint planning, backlog management, release coordination and retrospectives; translating business requirements into scalable, maintainable application, data and infrastructure designs and conducting architecture reviews; designing and building microservices as RESTful APIs with Docker, Kubernetes, service discovery and secure networking; developing event driven data pipelines with Apache Kafka for real time, and fault tolerant processing; building, testing and deploying with CI/CD pipelines including Jenkins, Maven, and Gradle; writing secure, high quality production code in Java, Python and Node.js with frameworks including Spring Boot, performing peer code reviews using static analysis including SonarQube; crafting full stack web applications with Node.js, React and TypeScript, consuming JSON/XML; implementing HTML5/CSS based UI interactivity; authoring and optimizing SQL, stored procedures and window functions on Oracle, Redshift and relational databases, including schema design, indexing and partitioning; developing and maintaining automated test suites including JUnit, and Selenium to execute unit, integration, regression and performance tests within CI; facilitating UAT with structured test plans and triaging results for go live readiness; eliminating recurring incidents via automation in Bash, PowerShell and Python with configuration management including Ansible, and Puppet and remediation scripts; designing telemetry, logging and cloud monitoring with Splunk, Datadog and Dynatrace, including metrics, alerts and dashboards; deploying and managing AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, RDS, and EKS using Infrastructure as Code including Terraform, and CloudFormation for repeatable, auditable, fault tolerant environments; building end to end machine learning pipelines in Python with scikit learn, TensorFlow and PyTorch for data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, hyperparameter tuning and RESTful deployment; constructing and validating predictive models including logistic regression, random forests, gradient boosting, and time series with cross validation, A/B testing and explainability; performing exploratory and data analysis on datasets with Pandas, NumPy, PySpark and SQL to extract, clean, transform and visualize insights; architecting scalable data processing with Apache Spark, AWS Glue and Databricks to automate ETL/ELT; implementing MLOps practices for model versioning, CI/CD retraining, automating validation, governance and orchestration including AWS Step Functions; creating dashboards and reports in Tableau and Qlik Sense with KPIs, visuals, parameterized filters and ODBC powered refreshes; applying data science techniques including clustering, NLP, computer vision and deep learning; and leading technical evaluations with vendors and internal teams to assess architecture, security and performance fit within enterprise systems.
