Chewy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to work on Chewy's Discovery Experience team in Bellevue, WA. The Discovery Experience team is responsible for a key segment of the customer's journey across the Chewy web and mobile apps. We help customers discover products through search results, browse listings, recommendations, and more. We do this by implementing the UI surfaces through which customers interact with our custom search and recommendation ML/AI models. As a senior member of the engineering team, you will work with product, design, data scientists, and other engineers to architect, develop and implement your solutions. Your contributions will shape the development of one of Chewy's fastest growing areas and give you a front row seat to shape Chewy's future trajectory.
To be successful in the role, you will need a proven track record of being a disruptor, innovator, and forward-looking engineer. You will need to be able to operate at depth, understanding every detail of the organization's product goals while maintaining the ability to "zoom out" and connect the dots across our technology stack. The role will have tremendous visibility in the product, technology & business organizations of Chewy.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the development of key customer-facing components of Chewy's Discovery experience, including our front-end web applications and APIs.
- Help evolve and grow Chewy's world-class search and recommendations system, serving millions of product search results and personalized content recommendations.
- Have a relentless focus on scalability, latency, performance robustness, and cost trade-offs - especially those found in single-page web applications served through highly virtualized, elastic, cloud-based infrastructure.
- Apply scientific analysis and mathematical modeling techniques to predict, measure, and evaluate the consequences of designs and the ongoing success of our platform.
- Alongside a dedicated site reliability team, support the smooth 24x7 operation of our team's services.
- Work with Staff and Principal Engineers to drive best practices in software development, testing, and production deployment across our organization.
- Apply vision, strategy, and thought leadership to impact Chewy, at scale.
What You'll Need:
- 10+ years of industry experience building full-stack, customer-facing, web applications.
- Demonstrated expertise working with Next/React/Node/TypeScript.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
- Hands-on mentality and willingness to spend a significant percentage of your time directing AI coding agents, reading code, architecting solutions, and debugging complex problems.
- Solid leadership and communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-based environment.
- Be located, or willing to relocate to be near our technical offices in Bellevue, WA.
Bonus:
- Experience in E-Commerce.
- Experience building Discovery, Search, or Recommendations experiences.
- Experience designing Generative UIs for use with LLM Agents.
- Experience developing web applications for use within native mobile apps.
- Experience working with AWS or other public cloud providers (Azure, Google Cloud).
The base salary range for this role is $141,000 - $225,000.00.
- The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
