Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. The Databases organization delivers trusted, scalable operational AI ready databases that power application development across cloud, hybrid, and on premises environments. Our portfolio includes SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, supporting developers as they build AI native applications and run critical workloads at global scale.

Azure SQL Platform is guided by a visionary and transformative mission to revolutionize cloud database management and deliver the platform, service, and features, for running the world's most critical workloads for millions of customers worldwide. We are looking for a Software Engineer 2 with engineering skills to join the team. You will have an opportunity to shape and build the next generation of SQL platform designed for 100x customer and request volume. You will:

1. Implement and maintain services and components that provide secure and resilient platform for SQL control plane and data plane services.
2. Develop innovative technology for managing massive-scale operations for large customers tolerating underlying system failures, software and hardware upgrades and reconfiguration, while enabling optimal placement and utilization of Azure clusters and regions.
3. Design and implement solutions for cluster expansions at a global scale, analyze telemetry and the behavior of large distributed systems to mine actionable insights.
4. Ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability across all services and solutions.
5. Contribute to design of service software stack, datacenter design and network topology.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and operate services, microservices and components that will improve the SQL DB service offerings ensuring quality, maintainability, and end-to-end ownership.
  • Release features on time, with high quality, meeting functional, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements .
  • Strengthen the engineering process to ensure cloud deployments are done in the most efficient way and meet the targeted reliability, performance, scalability, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) goals.
  • Identify improvements in supportability and customer self-diagnostics to enhance live monitoring and address performance and reliability related issues.
  • Learn our customers' experience first-hand by participating in the on-call rotation for the service teams.
  • Decisions with data, prioritize customer obsession, and leverage telemetry from production systems and customer usage pattern.

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
