The ProblemAs Flock continues to expand across diverse customer environments, bridging product engineering with real-world deployments is critical to scaling our customer onboarding motion. Implementing integrations across varied municipal and enterprise systems requires dedicated forward deployment engineers who can translate technical constraints into reliable configurations. You will partner directly with customers, write software for robust system integrations, and accelerate deployment execution across our expanding customer base.
What You'll Own- Lead technical discovery conversations and manage customer software integrations end-to-end from initial scoping through deployment.
- Configure, test, and maintain software tools and integrations that connect Flock technology with customer applications and networks.
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues involving REST APIs, networking configurations, authentication methods, and data formats.
- Create clear technical documentation, implementation guides, and troubleshooting resources to standardize customer onboarding experiences.
- Partner with internal Engineering and Product teams to feed implementation insights directly into core product improvements.
What This Role is Not- This isn't an internal desk-bound software development role, you will work directly with external customers and travel regionally 25% to 50% of the time.
- This is not a purely reactive customer support or helpdesk function, you will write integration code, design technical workflows, and proactively guide implementation architecture.
- This isn't an isolated sales engineering position, your primary focus is driving technical implementation and software execution rather than top-of-funnel deal closing.
What You Bring- Professional software engineering experience using languages such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
- Practical proficiency with SQL database querying, REST API structures, authentication mechanisms, and common data formats including JSON, XML, and CSV.
- Working knowledge of core networking concepts, including VPNs, firewalls, IP allowlisting, and SSL/TLS.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain technical requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel between 25% and 50% for customer deployments and onsite discovery.
- Prior experience in customer-facing engineering roles, cloud platforms, or containerization technologies is a plus.
