Full Job Description

Salary Range:

$135,000.00 - $175,000.00

What's the role?

We are looking for a Software Engineer to help improve Etsy's development workflows and environments. As a Developer Platform Engineer, you'll build infrastructure and tooling that enables other engineers to write, test, and ship code more effectively. You'll work alongside experienced engineers on meaningful projects spanning CI/CD, dev environments, and our engineering architecture. This role is a great fit if you enjoy solving problems, care about code quality, and want to grow your skills in a platform engineering context.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more details about our  work modes and workplace safety policies here.

What's this team like at Etsy?

  • The team focuses on increasing developer velocity and decreasing engineering friction while using industry-standard tooling

  • We work closely with other infrastructure, product, and SRE teams to ensure consistency between development and production

  • We are actively working on SDLC, CI/CD, and infrastructure architecture at Etsy, as well as improving the developer working environment

  • Everyone enjoys working with and getting to know each other, and appreciates a good work/life balance

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Stand-ups, sprint planning, and retros along with other agile ceremonies

  • On-call rotations and Slack support for our engineering "customers"

  • Pull request reviews and discussions with a focus on quality software engineering practices

  • Writing and updating documentation with clear protocols for other engineers to follow

  • Collaborating with engineers across teams to solve shared problems

  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Curiosity and a desire to keep learning, including picking up new frameworks and technologies as problems demand

  • Ability to work collaboratively and take direction well while building toward greater independence over time

  • Care about shipping complete, well-tested work, not just getting features across the finish line

  • Organized and attentive to detail, with an appreciation for tests and documentation

  • Some exposure to infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Chef, or similar) or willingness to learn

  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts, non-production environments, and software development lifecycle workflows
