Torch Technologies is seeking a mid-level technical specialist under the Technical and Management Advisory Services 2 (TMAS2) Task Order to provide advisory and assistance support to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Air Warfare Directorate at Eglin AFB, FL. The incumbent will support advanced research, modeling, and simulation (M&S) efforts within high-performance computing and laboratory enclaves. This role focuses on the design, development, integration, and orchestration of automated software frameworks, intelligent workflow pipelines, and scientific computing applications used to support advanced weapons development and lethality assessments.
As a
Software Engineer Framework Specialist your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:
- Supporting research and development teams at the Air Force Research Laboratory in developing and maintaining advanced computational tools for engineering analysis, physics-based simulations, and lethality assessments.
- Develops complex scientific applications, automation tools, and simulation pipelines.
- Assisting with the development, integration, and porting of various simulation tools, applications, and frameworks. Duties include designing and implementing automated workflow engines, event-driven architectures, agentic execution systems, and modular software pipelines to accelerate high-fidelity physics simulations by connecting computer-aided design (CAD) modeling, high-fidelity finite element analysis (FEA), and continuum mechanics physics codes.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and briefings, and provide advisory support in multidisciplinary technical meetings.
Job Requirements: - U.S. Citizen.
- 3- 10 years of relevant technical experience.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, IT, or related field is preferred.
- Active Secret Security Clearance (required to start).
Preferred Qualifications:- Proficiency in Python (including scientific and machine learning/data libraries) and modern software development practices (e.g., modular design, version control, API integration, asynchronous programming).
- Experience developing automated workflow frameworks, task-routing architectures, state machines, or agent-based execution systems for scientific computing.
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and automating CAD/geometry pipelines via scripting or APIs.
- Familiarity with Linux operating environments, shell scripting, and scientific computing tools.
- Exposure to other programming languages such as C/C++, FORTRAN, or Go.
- Familiarity with data exchange formats and interfaces (e.g., JSON, YAML, NumPy, REST APIs).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills, with a self-motivated approach to learning new frameworks and tools.
