Full Job Description
Position: Software Engineer, (EMW)

Reports To: Director of Business Systems

Position Summary:

Epoch Modern Workflow (EMW) is Epoch's platform for turning manual, spreadsheet-driven business processes into purpose-built applications. The initiative now includes more than 85 applications spanning vendor management, event management, invoice automation, and asset management, all built through AI-assisted development and maintained from a shared template so every improvement reaches every app. EMW serves two audiences: commercial and federal customers who deploy it for their own operations, and Epoch's internal staff who use it to build internal workflow tools.

This role supports both audiences. You will extend and support EMW applications delivered to customers, and you will mature the platform that lets non-developers across Epoch build software safely. The role entails: AI supported coding agents, designing agentic system guardrails, automation, and security foundation that let people build useful tools quickly without putting the company or its customers at risk.

Who you are:

  • Someone who cares more about the mission than the code. You measure your work by the value it delivers for the people using it.
  • A systems thinker who understands where components integrate, how they talk to each other, and where the gates need to be.
  • Security-minded by default, with instincts for secrets handling, authentication, input validation, and supply chain risk.
  • Comfortable working with AI coding agents.
  • Curious, adaptable, and willing to challenge your own habits as the tools and practices continue evolving.

What you'll do:

  • Customer delivery: Support, configure, and extend EMW applications deployed for federal customers. Work alongside the team to understand customer requirements and translate them into features.
  • Platform engineering: Maintain and evolve the shared EMW application template, and carry changes across the full application fleet through continuous refactoring, including dependency and library changes, provider migrations, and framework updates.
  • Guardrails and security: Build and improve the controls that keep AI-assisted and citizen development safe, including secrets management, token issuance, authentication, CI/CD checks, and code review practices.
  • Automation: Automate build, test, deployment, and operational workflows so the platform scales without adding manual burden.
  • On-premises and classified deployment: Help bring EMW to on-premises environments at the Secret and Top Secret levels, including Linux hosting, hardening, and cross-domain considerations.
  • Product growth: Identify new capabilities that deliver value for federal customers, and help shape how EMW grows across additional Department of War organizations and agencies.

What qualifications you'll bring:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development, DevSecOps, infrastructure automation, or systems engineering.
  • Strong Linux background including comfort working from the command line.
  • Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and modern web frameworks.
  • Experience with scripting or programming in Python.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code or configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices such as vulnerability management, secrets handling, and authentication/authorization.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred:
  • Active U.S. Top Secret security clearance (SCI eligibility a plus) and able to maintain eligibility.
  • Experience with serverless or edge platforms and SQL databases.
  • Experience supporting Department of War or Intelligence Community mission environments, including classified networks.
  • Experience with cybersecurity zero trust architectures or identity providers.
  • Experience with DoD compliance frameworks (e.g., RMF, STIGs, CMMC).
  • Experience working directly with federal customers.
  • Experience with Linux and Docker development.

What We Offer:

  • Progressive Compensation Package
  • Healthcare Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision and Prescription Drugs)
  • Wellness program
  • 401k with Company match
  • Flexible Paid Time Off
  • 12 Paid Holidays
  • Life Insurance and Disability Coverage
  • On site gym (Littleton facility)
  • On-Going Training & Development
