Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer - Database Developer to support a large-scale space ground system transitioning from prototype to full operations. This role focuses on architecting, designing, developing, and testing data systems capable of handling high-volume data and video workloads. The ideal candidate will have strong database design and SQL expertise, system-level knowledge, and experience working in mission-critical environments. The position is onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Key Responsibilities
• Architect, design, develop, and test data systems capable of handling large-scale data and video workloads.
• Redesign reference applications for operational rigor and contribute to the architecture of real-time, mission-critical ground systems.
• Design and implement database solutions at scale, including systems supporting petabyte-scale data accumulation.
• Design systems integrating mission planning, real-time visualization, and continuous operations.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate software requirements into data models and technical solutions that meet operational and performance requirements.
• Conduct software system-level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure alignment with requirements, architecture, and engineering standards.
• Research and support the implementation of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.
• Apply database optimization techniques to support performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience working with large Database Management Systems (DBMS).
• Strong proficiency in SQL and database design.
• Experience with systems transitioning from prototype environments to operational environments.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, early-phase architecture and development environments.
• Foundational knowledge of computer science, object-oriented design, and software design patterns.
• Knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes.
• Knowledge of database backup and recovery techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with software configuration management, software architecture, and software lifecycle management.
• Experience with Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript frameworks such as React, jQuery UI, or OpenLayers.
• Experience with Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, or OpenAPI.
• Experience with dependency management and automation tools such as Maven, Gradle, Git, or Jenkins.
• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with test-driven development (TDD), Agile software development, and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with data system optimization, including performance tuning and indexing.
• Experience with RDBMS technologies such as SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Experience with NoSQL data systems such as MongoDB.
• Experience with systems engineering or software development for space-based or ground-based systems.
